Yeah, that's what I was thinking -- I'll have to see if I can modify a 428 to carry a 200A lantern, without butchering the stove, too much ... I'd prolly try and make a burner support out of thin diamond plate ?

I'd like to have the dual-fuel capability, as the stuff I use for camping doubles as my zombie-apocalypse equipment. :D

All Coleman lanterns and stoves can run unleaded. You just have to clean the generator more

Andy, I thought I had a lot of 3 burners!:hhmm:
Do you use all those or just collect?
I'm about to CL a couple of 426 variations. Keeping a C and plain 426. Like the rounded corners.
I really like the idea of storing the stand and a lantern in the case. I only have the large newer style of lanterns so I'll have to look for something older.
Love this thread as it's from the 'wheeling' world which helps even more.
Forward...

They are all users. Unfortunately, when I see a nice condition 3 burner on Craigs for $20 or less I just go buy it figuring someone will eventually want it.

I have a new home for one of the 426Ds, and the other 426D I have been experimenting on. I added screw in feet so it can sit on uneven surfaces and still be level. We use that in the back yard for the 3 times per year we deep fry something and don't want the danger of all that hot oil inside the house.

The 426 no letter is a real beast. I'd keep that too.

Regarding small lanterns, a 200A, which is the common red single mantle lantern, fits well, and usually under $20. The 242B and C that I like, are all pre 1950 and a little harder to find. One last lantern that fits, and I've tested it and know, is the 335. They were not made in the USA but were all made and sold in Canada. They are common, and cheap (I got two for $20) and are 50% brighter than other small singles.

Here is my 425F restore. Thanks Drew for the color suggestion it looks great and original. Letting the paint dry.

That's going to look great.

Just remember the paint stays soft a long time. If your wife will let you, and after it's air dried at least a day, put the stove case and pieces in the oven at 175-200 degrees for about an hour. This really helps make the paint hard and fuel resistant.

My .02 for the thread.
Got a few old lanterns next to my desk; gotta love the mini one!

Here's what you get for $10. There is so much good Coleman around for $10-$20, it's hard to not end up with a garage full.

It's a 413E from roughly 1960-1961. I like the full case, the torpedo tank, and the pull out legs. The black latch tells you it's earlier, rather than later. It could be a 1959 since there are no extra leveling slots for the legs and a '58 should have a gold tank. This stove is in good enough shape to cook dinner, every night, for the next 50 years.

Coleman was big on details in this era. Look at how they restrained the tank inside the case-the tank restraints were dropped on all future models of this stove:

Anyway, late 50s and 60s was the era when Coleman did everything right. Even into the 70s, Coleman stuff was rock solid. This gear would be a bargain at 10x the price, but your local Craig's and some patience will net you the best camp kit ever for pocket change.

I just gave away a 3 burner 426D that I got for $10 with a stove stand! Lots of good ones around. If I find another, you'll be first on the list at cost. Seriously, they come up all the time on Craig's list.

The Coleman stoves in particular, are still as good as anything available, even 50 years on. And even though I admire the 20s-40s cast iron burners, the 54-74 time frame has the best gear of all time if you want a suit case stove. Edit--even up to the 1993 414 that I have, they were still great. Later ones are not as good. They thinned out the sheet metal, and lessened their attention to detail, and generally went "modern" sometime in the late 1990s.

Put me down for second on the list for a three burner! Coleman stuff rarely pops up on Craigslist around here, and half the time the sellers think it is made of gold. I've yet to see a three burner.

Funny about the 3 burners. :hhmm: They do come up frequently as my inventory of about 6 three burners in addition to one PreWay 3 burner will attest. :meh:
Trying to thin the heard.

I used my three burner this weekend not so much for the three burners but because my big pot fits on the center burner and I can still have the wind screens up.

Saw your CL add Russ. I may hit you up when this shutdown ends and I'm earning a paycheck again

Found a green 200a (Probably a 200A 700) that is missing it's vent.

Anyone have a spare one that they are willing to part with??? :D

That's nice.

There was an undesirable propane lantern that came with the proper green hat for this one. I'll bet you could find out which one with a search.

You could also ask in the classifieds on the Coleman collectors forum.

Why are your pics sideways most of the time?

You know, that 237 is a POS. Absolutely the worst lantern Coleman ever made. They ran bad from the factory. Everyone hates them because the're Canadian (or most of them are).

I will give you $5 for it. LMK
