Are the rubber pump seals total chit? I put new seals in my Sears stove, used my it once in May, emptied the fuel out of it and went to use it this weekend and went to pump it up and it was not working... it felt sticky.. I could force the plunger in, but it took a ton of force and just felt like the rubber might have broken down already and gummed up.

Are the leather cups available anywhere? I managed to get it to work, but it was annoying.
The leather seals are easy to make from an old boot top or work glove.

weekend finds

I was over at my fathers and picked up some stuff he had in the basement a couple of coleman things and a couple of thermos .

FWIW, CruiserDrew - thanks for that tip on Sefaudi (ebay) for the leather cups. Ordered a few and man, they're even better than Coleman used to be. He ships fast, too.

Cheers!

Yep, they are the real deal. They seem to soak up the Neatsfoot oil and stay extremely supple. They are the only leathers I have been able to retrofit into the newer stoves and lanterns with the plastic collar on the pump. Otherwise you have to use the neoprene cups that work OK but seem to fail when it's least convenient.

One place they have been hard to use is on 242s. The pump shaft there has an extra bushing just a few thousandths but the hole in Sefaudi's leather cups is just a tiny amount too small. Otherwise they make a permanent replacement that will outlive any user.

Andrew,

These should work on a 502??

Found them on eBay & they look great, will order if they will work on the 502.

Thanks, John

Yes-They would work perfectly, In fact, my 1968 502 has one of these in it.

Super, thanks Andrew. They really do look great.

I wonder if any of you might have a birthday lantern dated 12/76 that you would part with? I have been watching one on ebay for over a year but before I go ahead with a purchase I figured I'd ask around. Thought it would make a good gift for my brother this Christmas.

I'll give it a coupla days here and then go ahead with the ebay buy. Thanks in advance for looking.

Looked through my stash and none of them make your dates. The one on ebay for $50 BIN looks good though.

There is a guy on Coleman Collectors forum who has a data base of what was made when. For 12/76 it looks like a 220J or a 275. They were still making 200A's then, but not sure if 12/76 is available.

If you are willing to look North to Canada, there might be a 335 with those dates.

Good luck!

Just today I received my leather cups from Sefaudi...look great as advertised. You know, that's a pretty squared away outfit. Ordered them, got a email saying when they should arrive and that postage from Turkey was only $2.70...how do they do that ?

My 502 is outside and it's cold and rainy right now, so I can't take a look...but I don't remember seeing a easy way to get the old cup off. Is there a screw that I don't remember or can't easily see ?

Thanks, John

Thanks for looking Drew. Bit of a longshot I know. Actually, I am in Canada :D.

I just bought one of the two on ebay. Time is getting short before the 25th so I figured I had better get the process started.

What exactly is 'Muffler Mender' for repairing old Coleman's ?

Yesterday I asked O'Rilleys for some Muffler Mender and got a blank stare, and he said he didn't have a clue. This often happens when I ask questions.

Beginning a refurb of a really neat 200a and think this may help or at least be needed at some point in the future.

Is it a paste ? Alumiinum tape...does it have adhesive ? Or is it something you spread like Anti Sieze ?

Thanks, John

Ah, the ole google trick, eh. Thanks, I didn't think of that.

A tube, that makes sense, I'll try Napa. We only have 2 auto parts in town.

No, I'm not certain I need it, but just in case.

Let me get into it a bit more and I will try to get some pics up.

Thanks to you both.

Offer $20. Those things work.

I like them too:

The one pictured is a really nice "diamond" one from the early 1960s. The stuff with that diamond either on the stove, the box, the cooler, the jug or what ever, is usually about the best that Coleman made. Go buy it if you have an interest.
