More pics of how the dash looks atm. Couldn't bring myself to cut the factory radio hole larger so I just mounted it down below... The vinyl on the glovebox lid and the gauge cluster was pretty wrecked so just made some new face plates out of aluminium sheet....
Want to put in some sound deadening and carpet soon as well as cup holders :) Can anyone recommend any good sound deadener/matting stuff???

Also a pic of where I mounted the power steer reservoir and the glow and starter relays...

Stumpo,

Glad you posted the pictures of your dash. I'm thinking on doing something similar. Does your glovebox open?

As far as sound deadeners, look at what I did, I like the spray on stuff. Truly amasing how it works. I used Lizard Skin.

WOW!

I've been looking for this exact information!!!!!

I have a 1971 FJ55 waiting to do this exact work to. All of it! I have a donor HJ60 that will be donating its 2H, 5 Speed and axles (among a million other parts).

Now I know it can be done and how it can be done! Thanks a million!

I can only hope that my work is half as good as yours! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Please keep posting!

Any plans to turbo the 2H?

Thanks S****daddy, will look into that, hopefully its available on the Oz market.....

my glovebox does open, just pop riveted the sheet of alloy to the factory glovebox once I unbolted the vinyl/foamy cover, really simple.

You have a 1980 Pig?

I have yet to see one!

What is the build date?

Would you post pics of the tag?

Thanks, really enjoy your build!

Hey Pablo, good point it was definitely a later model (has power steer) but I'm not even sure it is a 1980 model....that was just what the PO said which I didn't think too much about....I'd check the tag for you but its long gone to landfill :frown: was only really a parts pig...

No worries, it can definitely be done but I suppose the biggest challenge for you would be finding the HJ47 engine mounts that go on the side of the motor.....even I had a hard time and I live in Oz....

I toyed with the Hj60 mounts for a while, the mounts on the chassis for a 55 are in line with the mounts on the engine but it drops the motor heaps lower and the rubber engine mounts don't line up....

Have been thinking about a turbo for the 2H, but have heard mixed reviews so I think i'll just keep it as is for the time being.....

Thanks for the comments, and if you want any specific info or pics just let me know

I've only ever seen a handful where I am....wonder if there's many Oz pig owners registered here on Mud???

Brenno has a Pig, not sure if there are many more Aussie Pig owners.

I'm just waiting to buy mine, maybe Sept when back from leave.

60 knucles

For sure! Check out the "rear body mount thread" there is a picture of them side by side. Plus you get the disc brake thing,

I am a beginner and the swap was easy once I was done. Intimidating to start but not that bad in hind sight!!

Wish I had gone with that cool yellow color:p!

Thanks, yeah gotta say I really like it. It's more of an orange though....the powdercoater had it listed as 'safety orange'
Anyway just working on getting the rear sway bar hooked up (which I had done the same colour :)) For some reason the rear axle I got off my parts pig doesn't have the tabs on the housing to bolt the sway bar links on.....

More pics of what else I got done today....
I finally got back my air cleaner housing from the powdercoaters. Its off a HJ75 but I had to modify it slightly to get it to work how I wanted it to...ended up putting a 'collar' in the top section to get it to connect with the intake pipe, also got rid of the original air intake hole which I patched and cut a 3" mandrel 90deg bend which I then welded to the side for my new air intake for the air box...I couldn't weld all the way around the 3" pipe and make it look neat so I just welded what I could and sika-flexed the join after it got powdercoated...
Then I cut a 92mm hole through my fender :D

Gotta say its amazing how much quieter the motor is now just from getting rid of that stupid pod filter....sounds heaps better at idle and driving around its also much quieter....well as quiet as a 2H can get (still don't have any sound deadening)
Next on the list is a snorkel....

Also got some pics of last weekends endeavour....
Got the hub and spindle from Huntsman 4wd products down in Melbourne for $80 or so....I made the bottom section of the rear bar a while ago just out of some 125x75 RHS, finally welded in the rear spindle and made something to hang my spare off.
pics...

Finished...
I still need to brace the rear bar where I welded the spindle in just because it flexes slightly from the weight of the tire when you open the swing arm out...otherwise I'm really happy with how it turned out. To hold it closed I just welded a bolt to the swing arm which goes through a hole in the bar and I just slide a lynch pin through it to hold it in place.
Ohh and the white stuff on the RHS is my kitchen cutting board that I sacrificed as a 'bumpstop' for the swing arm to rest upon :D

Thought I'd share some pics of what I did to the front indicators that go on the side of the fenders. The lampholders in the originals were totally rusted out because the PO put them on upside down and water couldn't escape through the little drainage holes in the rubber gasket. Anyway I totally did away with the backing plate/lampholder and cut out some alloy sheet which I then attached some 12V LED strip to. Looks great at night!

Also got a photo of where I mounted my pre-filter/water separator....was originally a Delphi filter but I'm fairly certain it was clogging or restricting the flow maybe????(was 5 micron), I just found that the engine would start to die on long hills but after changing it I've never had an issue...am still thinking of making up a little stone guard to protect the glass bowl....

Stumpo,

Great update, you've been busy. I like everything you're doing.

I would definitely make a guard for the filter. I've got to do the same.

On the swingout, What's your idea on bracing. Would it work to move tire closer to the spindel and not have a long swing arm? One day I'll have to make one and I'm always kicking around ideas.

Good Job!
