okay guys, I picked up a set of E46 leather BMW seats for $200, they're in good shape. Power, heat, no airbags.

I'm experiencing buyers remorse and can't tell if they fit the personality of the truck. Should I sell the BMW seats? And retain the stock seats?? My passenger side is in good shape, but my drivers side is tired, with the classic tear on the side.

Am I violating the cruiser by putting these in? Before I eat and 120$ for the Torfab bracket, should I unload the seats and reapulster mine?

Or is the difference worth the swap?

While the seats dont exactly match the period styling of the cruiser. I think they look good and I love mine. However, the most important reason for getting them is comfort! If you think they are comfortable (and some people don't) then you are going to enjoy driving your cruiser more, drive it more often and think about the seating less. Why suffer for the original seats if they are not comfortable?
I also have a grey interior, I would look for a pair of the seats in grey. The grey matches well with the stock grey cruiser interior.

I put alot of miles on the original cruiser seats. They were bad, but I was young and tougher.

When I drive my truck, it's for long trips camping, so sitting in a nice seat helps alot.

If you want to keep the look of the original seats and don't hate the way they feel. Then just reupholster the originals.

Do what you want, not what others do

I just put a set of black BMW seats in my 62 and it's a huge difference. In terms of comfort I find it so much better than stock it's not even funny. They do seem to sit a little higher though, and since the steering wheel doesn't telescope it will fell a little different. I've also had trouble aligning my new seats so that they sit nice and straight, they seem to sit with a little bit of "toe out" it seems. Hopefully something I can adjust as I have everything apart at the moment.

For me it all came down to color and comfort, I love the black and the comfort level is much improved - ymmv :D

is the rest of your truck original? if so you may want to keep it that way. if you have made any modifications then this is another one I that I myself found very worth every penny. I think they look fine in the truck especially if you decide to spend a little more and match the rear bench

With the exception of the ruffy box, the interior is all original. The rest of the truck is frankinstined'

How hard is it to wire up the power seats?

I went grey cloth PT Cruiser seats and the difference is amazing (I can imagine the BMW seats are even more comfortable). To each his own if you feel like your "crossing the streams", the older I and my spine get the more I appreciate the comfort. If the new brackets do not require some permanent mod give it a couple of weeks trial.

For those of you that have used torfabs brackets, do you know if there's still enough room under the passenger seat for an inverter?

I no longer have the heating element, but i do have a nice inverter wired up under there, how much space is there to work with under that seat? It's pretty slim, maybe size and height of 3 DVD case's stacked up

I'm the last guy to pony up for things like the Torfab brackets, but they are nicely made - stout, subtle, classy. Glad I bought them.

I only notice the comfort of my BMW seat - not the color. Put them in, and carefully reupholster and store your old seats. If the buy wants them, reinstall, if not - sell for a few hundred a pair. If you sell your truck some day, you're covered either way.

If you're really that concerned, then just store you stockers so you can put them back if you ever feel so inclined. I have experienced back injuries and have an occasasional sciatica flare-up, so comfort trumps looks. IMO, the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in was my 2005 Acura TL--those would look WAY out of place in a 60, much moreso than the BMW seats.

I need new seats also, actually just the drivers. It's not very comfortable and it's leaking foam badly. Thanks for posing this question and I appreciate all the responses thus far. So much to consider.

personally........I have seen maybe one set of BMW seats in a 60 that looked good to me, it was on a 60 that the whole interior had been redone in maybe leather? new door panels and all, it all matched and looked great. Not that the BMW seats don't look bad in most 60
s...but just not great. I am sure they are way more conformable than the stockers, but for me, I will re-do the stock bottom.

maybe if the BMW seats had a cloth cover to match the color of the interior they would appeal to me more

comfort is relative....our 60 is better than the 40, the 40 is better than the 45, the 100 is actually just a bit better than the 62 ;)
