all i can say is, Boy! i've been missing out. my 94 Runner has 130k on her, one thing bothers me quite bit was the shifter, it bounces all over the places.

i ordered a pair of Marlin Crawler's Heavy Duty Shifter Seat/socket, all for $16+postage. yesterday morning, i opened up the shifter housing, what i found out was that the factory shifter seat was totall disintegrated, nothing but some black powery stuff mixed with grease left in the cup. it took me totally of 10 minutes to have the seat and socket replaced. no special tools required, couple screw drivers and a plier for pry out the old socket.

now i'm enjoying the clean, crisp, solid shifting, specially the 5th and revers gears.

i'd say if you have a 5spd, over 100k, go get one, you will know what i've been missing out.

No, I dont think that would be be tempareture related.

I think it's the clutches in the Torque converter

IF I didn't hate the throws in a V6 5sp trans so much it would be in it now.

Thank you so much for this

The Marlin seats are a must for me. I have done them in both my 4Runner and pickup and it is a world of difference. I have about a year and 13K miles on the 4Runner seats and they are holding up great.

acutally it was an honest mechanic told me to check the shifter seat out when i took the truck to his shop for an estimate on a set of new clutch. i thought my clutch was gone but it turns out couple of plastic parts did the trick. the difference is day'n nite indeed.

plus, the installation is so easy, event a caveman can do it. :)

You'd be surprised how many emails I still get thanking me for that write-up I did waaaay back in 2000.

A friend has a '94 xcab pickup with 230K on the clock now, last year she started having problems shifting it. She works at a high school, so she had the auto-shop teacher look at it. He declared that the tranny was worn out and needed to be rebuilt or replaced. She brought it over for me to look at, I keep those seats on hand for such occasions. Swapped it in, her old seat was completely shredded. It's been perfect ever since.

Now I use Marlin's seats, they are better.

i just barely took my shifter housing off after 190,000 miles and my bushings are just little tiny bits everywhere. i'm ordering some from marlin today. i'll see just how much better it is.

Hey I got an L43 transmission and I cannot get to these bushings. How do I get to them I can't remove the shifter from the socket

doesnt the L series tranny use an external shift mechanism?ie it isnt a top loader like the g and w series.i dont think there are any bushings in the socket

This sucks I jsut spent 25 bucks at the toyota dealership thinking they had the bushings and took apart my side shifting mechanism. Anyone want to buy the bushings from me for $20 in the Houston Area. THis crap always happens to me.

Nope still have not opened them but I'm going back there tomorrow to return them and buy a windshield seal for $84.

:crybaby:

yup it's a great part to get. i just got mine today and took like 2 seconds to put in and it shifts like a dream. before i have to really push the shifter into gear, now i can push it in with my pinky.

I've just replaced mine, which was pretty much non existant. :D I'm curious if yours had a black circular rubber piece beneath the original Shifter Seat? I cleaned mine and put it back in place and everything else went back together properly.
