I really like the idea of being able to lift the tent up for use and being able to lower it for transit. What are you using to lift it? Do you have some type of ram or jack?
I used 4 guys and some 1x1 in the tube ends. I didn’t have time to finish it before the trip.

Now, I’m planning to do a cable winch. Keep an eye out on the thread and I post up my plan and how it works out.

Hey thanks, I have enjoyed sharing as I go along the build.

Still to go teaser:
The wire RTT lift system.
There will be a water tank system.
Second location on the tongue tire holder.
Extension tongue.
Side steps.

Any info on that tonneau cover?

The cover is a 4 piece aluminum frame with a vinyl snap cover. It has 4 clamps and the rear bar is removable. The other bars can stick down with a 3/16 foam. The snaps are square and firm.

Oh, and in my 4x6 size it has two arched cross support poles.

The link is https://downeyproductsnortheast.com/ and I had a great experience with this upstate NY company.

Ok breaks over! I have a club camping trip on aug 11th.

The lift is the 1st order of business. Fixing the damaged fender and maybe adding a stepping platforms. Building a mount for an 18ga water tank and wiring the water pump. Making the tailgate function as a table with some cables. Making the tounge extension and wiring up a 7way extension cord.

So like I said breaks over.

Wire lift is in and working. The initial assessment is this is pretty functional and simple. I made the columns with a lot of space, so that there was a good deal of play to reduce the risk of binding. It still binds when I lowered it slowly with the tent folded out and the weight off center.

The details: two strap winch’s on each side, locking pins, slots for the steel rope in each side of the outer post.

Wire anchor details on each post this should help fine tune the cable length.

Each inner column has a pulley at its base and the cable pull tends to keep the column centered. The initial parts are not fancy just Home Depot. Will see if this needs to be upgraded to perform.

A cautionary tale. “Tighten all bolts as you go”. In July I rushed to get the build done and go camping. Well I forgot to fully torque the spacers to the hubs. I had put them on for the rolling chassis months before......

Well a 1/2 mile down the road the spacer came off the hub and the tire and wheel came off. I pulled off quickly and thought where is the wheel?

Like a cartoon the wheel rolled slowly down the yellow line, easily 20 seconds after I pulled over.

I grabbed it quickly. This is all that happened to the trailers fender. Of course having gotten lucky, I pulled the wheels , spacers and torqued up everything. I have 800 miles since and have no issues.

Tounge extension is made, painted but the 7 way wiring patterns differ and the lights dont work. Its 30” not 72” like the photo suggests. This is for road only to ease the quickness in backing and reduce the risk of fish tailing. It’s all about the details.

I have added the safety chain plates on the extension and I can use the same chains. I took the photo prior to that.

Trailer Short for out west:
Weld the remaining lift parts that are tacked in.
Make the tailgate a functioning camping table.
Fix fender screw up and add clearance at the same time.
7 Way extension cord.
18 gallon water tank with pump

It was a Busy weekend for the “4x6” and it has to be. The two featured posts will be the tailgate cables so now it can be a camp table.

I unbolted the fenders and cut off the 1 1/4” square tube supports. The old mounts were level with the top on the chassis. The new mounts will be ~ 2 1/2” higher and I will trim the fenders from the bottom. The fenders will stay at the present height for a camping surface. I used an old school hammer and dolly to work the beat up fender back into shape. I have no skills but I banged away where I thought I should.

I welded the new supports laying flat and on the table. The welds look pretty good under those conditions.

Can you post pictures or diagram or something to show how the cables were routed for the RTT lift?

I’ll put something together. It may take a little time, I’m working hard to be ready for a trip in a few weeks.

This was the inspiration to lift from the bottom. I only needed one vertical to get a 21” lift. I’ll see about drawing lines on a photo of the side view.

Welded the fender supports on the frame and chopped the bottom 3” off the fenders. The look is similar, which I like but with more clearance. While I was there I made the license plate light a quick connect.

Started the 18 gallon water tank holder, which will be tied to the front wall of the trailer. This will include a pump two fill points and a drain hose. Also I used the trimbren shims and took out what I felt was the excessive camber. I’ll do a test drive without the RTT for a minimum weight base line.

Here’s a shot of the fender raised and trimmed.

Planning a steel frame for the water tank and this will also box in the trailer jacks.

Here’s the finished frame with the tank inserted again from the top.
