As if my build thread isn't big enough, I'm gonna spam MUD even more with a new thread for my 3 link build. This project is involved enough that it needs its own thread. And it would serve as a good reference point for folks in the future as 80s with custom linked suspensions aren't really that common yet.

And of course we need to thank Brian @4WheelUnderground for paying attention to the cheap but demanding 80 crowd. To-date nobody has been willing to put out a comprehensive 3 link package specifically tailored for these trucks http://www.4wheelunderground.com/fj80front3link.html

Parts started arriving back in December and I've just recently started the demolition.

PAC Racing Springs. 14"/16", 200/350lb. Orange because I like loud and in-your-face.

For the rear I'll be installling Radflo 2.5s and OME 5" Comp coils

Hellfire knuckles as well. I'll be reusing my y-link steering with TREs. They'll be mounted upside down under the high steer arms.

- 14" towers from Barnes, plan is to stuff as much as I can in the engine bay and trim it down to size
- Lower coilover mounts from Dave's Custom Unlimited. Absolutely perfect fit on our axle tubes.
- Chromoly spindle nut and "super metal" hub stud kit from Trail Mart
- Axle gusset from Low Range, will need a bit of massaging to fit an 80 axle

A few weeks ago I started the actual tear down.

Things went quicker than I thought considering I'm only using a grinder and a sawzall.

And as of this past weekend, all the grinding and cutting is done. Ready to start tacking things in place.

Panhard bracket really only goes in one place so I started to tack that in. Not much room to get this one wrong so no need to wait for the axle.

You could tell Brian put a lot of thought into this intricate bracket.

You could see the part of the OEM bracket I left in place. No way in hell I was going to try and remove that in between the steering box bolts.

Passenger side bracket that has the 3rd link mount built in. This thing is a BEAST!

I will never need a three-link. But these pictures really make me want one...

Lemme be the first to say-

Gimme radius arms or gimme death!!

I perform my best work when I've been drinking.

I bet you do. :)

Sidenote: I thought "2MinuteTurk" was Beno's OTHER user name, no?

Man, the pics have prompted more questions than I thought they'd answer.....more ideas than I'd imagine will be well received.

Dood can lay down a stack o' dimes, that's for sure.

Moar pics, man. Moar pics!!

Does the 3 link put that much more stress on the axle that you need to gusset it or is that a "while you have it out" upgrade?

Thank you for not being the guy(x1000) who accessorizes the holy FAWK out of an 80 with Bolton junk only to appease the Starbucks line conversation:D

You're the real McCoy Jose:beer:

No offense to the 98% of the mud community:) enjoy your coffee...

A radius arm binds and asks the axle for stoppage. This is bound by rubber bushings, so we don't have bent up axles by stock suspension fallacies. But that gusset is 'while you have it out', nothing 3 link specific. A 3 link does not bind.
