Not much to report... Got the 55 on the 80 series frame. Going to pull the 1FZ-E soon and shorten the frame at the same time. Also got some sexy Bob rocker panels for the pig. It's a bummer my rockers are rust free just one of them is dented pretty bad. I'll give the other rust free one away if anyone is in need of a passenger side rocker.

The other pic was just from my drive to work the other morning.... My threads to tend to wonder a bit ;) Till then, -Al

It sure was a perfect day.. Easiest engine removal ever.

Yes, and to give it to Deo. A 2UZ will be making its way into it after the body and frame work are done ;)

Alright... A little update.

I have been gathering tools and parts for awhile. Picked up a new Hobart Handler and gas tank for the sheet metal work. I have a Clark 220 but I had a hard time welding anything thin with it. Also got a bunch of consumables like 50 + grinding discs, tape, plastic, new grinder( recently blew up my current one). Ordered a butt load of Clecos for skinning the roof (more on that later). Rust Bullet. Etc etc... So as you guys can see I am gearing up to really jam out on this project.

Today I centered the body on the frame to see where things are going to end up and what needs trimmed, built, moved. I have to pull the gas tank because of the lack of room from the frame/suspension parts. New one will have to be bought/ made which will differ depending on what motor ends up in there.

Aside from that I picked up some steel to shorten the frame (man has that gone up in price since my last build) which is the next step. Sometime this week I hope to pull the frame out and strip all of the body mounts along with shortening the frame.

Till then,

~Al

I posted a profile shot of the FZJ55 frame on stock wagon wheels on it (3.75 BS I believe). I will be running 4.5/75 BS so that should help tuck the wheel/tire combo further under the rig.

Have you planned how you're going to go about this? The 2UZspect, specifically?

I've been researching the H151/HF1A combo and have hounds on the trail of, but not confident the best direction.

Look forward to watching this develop, to say the least.

Lookin good, you switch to .023 wire yet? If not, do it, It's sooo much nicer on sheet metal.

@Mace Yulp! Pretty excited to give it a go. Having the right stuff for a job really makes it a lot more fun.

@Delancy I am leaning towards the 2UZ but might pick something smaller and newer. That part of the build is a little ways off.

Sounds like you have a plan. Around how much are you thinking will have to be removed from the frame?

I have it written down somewhere but IIRCC 5.5" ... I'll take plenty of pictures of the process.

Climbing Rope Bench 2.webp Climbing Rope Bench 3.webp Since I am cranking up this build like some of my old mudder friends know its also about all the fun crap in-between. I was about to start pulling the gas tank yesterday when some of my surfer/climber buddies shown up... this led to that.. espresso.. lumber yards and expired climbing rope (hit the 5 year mark). A few hours later we had some cool furniture... Back to regular scheduled programing for the next update.
