sounds like a vac leak, Have you hooked up a vac gauge to it yet?

Nope... I have to get one. Its been awhile since I had to do any of this. My 2RZ was modern and you just had to put gas in it.:p

All the seals are new but I guess that doesn't mean its not leaking.

Congratulations on getting legal. Must be a good feeling, knowing you can just hop in it and go.

Nice work Al. An FJ55 and you= "perfect together" ... Maybe even more than the bad ass 60...

What does "iridelowtide" think? ;)

Still not running much better...

The Fuel Cutoff Solenoid was sticking so I pulled it apart and reassembled with some lube, seems to work just fine now. I also checked for vacuum leaks, there is a slight one when cold around the intake that seemed to go away once warm.

I also checked vacuum.

Around 15 at idle (17 under throttle) while parked.

It will still only idle with slight choke.

Checked plugs seemed fine, fuel is clean and new, have yet to check timing aside from by hand ( need to borrow a light).

Still thinking maybe carb issues??( fresh rebuild )

I had a similar problem w/ my 40,turned out to be the vac line to the dist was garbage.Threw a new line on and haven't had a problem since:)

You have more vac when under throttle???

Found the problem:

I pulled the carb back off and found "sand-like" stuff in the float. Pulled and cleaned all jets. Since there was no response from the "idle mixture screw" the idle system must have been faulty. I tore the carb down and found the port going to that screw mostly covered by gasket.

It's running and idling MUCH better. I wasn't able to drive it yet but tomorrow I will scoot around town and see how it runs.

Ill also adjust the valves and timing... and hope it runs even better yet!

Will do Lemon.

Put 50 miles on the pig today!

Was fun and scary. Felt like I was pushing my luck on dry rotted tires but I had a blast.

Snagged a picture of the El Galeon while I was stuck on the bridge.

I was also over a fellow cruiser heads house and he pulled out a box of old off road mags from the early 70s. Was too cool. They had a review on the same damn 55 right down to the color.

Hell it could have even been the truck from the article.
