Evap system problem. It's not venting at the charcoal canister. Either bad canister or VSV purge valve would be the likely culprit. It happens at sea level also. It's not that simple. There are too many variables.
Have people not used not genuine OEM pump and if so how they go ?.I can get a non genuine one made in Japan for quarter of the price and China one even cheaper.
Having issue starting cold start, car firing but if i turn it off after 2 minutes not yet warmed up just turns and won't fire unless i put my foot on pedal and give it gas it starts is that a sign of a failing fuel pump.I have noticed to when starting and cranking sounds a bit weaker and I don't think it's battery related. What a the signs of a failing fuel pump ?.Thanks.
Danny about the only way to conclusively determine if your fuel pump is working correctly is to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. When your engine is running can you hear a 'whining' sound from the fuel take area? Sometimes you need to get under the vehicle while it is running in order to hear it. Often times a failing pump will give you a bit of a warning in the form of a whining/straining sound.
Has your fuel filter been changed recently?
With regards to aftermarket pumps....you 'can' use one. I don't recommend it, since it will probably be short lived. Changing the fuel pump is not a particularly hard job....but not something you want to do twice in a short period of time.
There are certain tests (resistance) that can be performed right at the fuel pump to help determine its condition.

I had similar symptoms to what you are experiencing. Do you also have a low idle or on a cold start up is your idle less than 1000rpm?
I thought I was experiencing a fueling issue and came across a throttle body/MAF cleaning thread and read the symptoms about it. Low idle, cranking starting to take a little longer or seem not as strong, idle acting funny coming to stop, etc. I started putting the pieces together in my head. The low idle was causing the battery to not charge. Then started comparing the idle/start symptoms to those in the MAF/TB cleaning thread. Figured I'd start there before checking other issues.
Well as soon as I took off the intake it was pretty apparent. The bottom of the throttle body was disgusting, caked with dirt, grime, etc. But cleaned it all up and all of my issues went away. I always thought it was strange that the LX didnt have a higher idle for cold start up, after the cleaning my cold idle went from 750 maybe to now sitting at 1200rpm +/- and all the low battery symptoms went away, slight stall etc.
Wow that felt long winded lol

Just best to spray the cleaner and clean with a rag for throttle body.@Dannyboy lx470

@flintknapper, thanks for this photos and detailed instructions, especially those on page 3 showing how the fuel lines attached. It gave me a bit of confidence as I was replacing my pump assembly today.![]()
Just changed my fuel pump this morning, thanks for the encouragement, @flintknapper. The pump was running fine but it was 22 years and 309k miles old... Time for forced retirement.
I used Denso kit 950-0107 which includes the pump, strainer, and lots of bits & bobs most of which aren’t used.
I found this detailed video showing the process from start to finish:
A few extra tips:
- To relieve fuel system pressure: before disconnecting negative battery terminal remove EFI relay under the hood and crank the engine a few seconds.
- Mark the orientation of the unit to the body by score marks since any Sharpie mark will be removed by the gas that will inevitably get everywhere.
- When removing the pump assembly immediately put it in a deep tray to keep fuel from getting on the interior. Also, work in this tray at your bench since there’s a good amount of gas in the pump that will spill out while changing the parts.
So far so good, car still runs.Hey Ayune - How's that Denso kit working out?
I think my LC is due and that's a good price.
Also, any comment on the post above? Any other parts needed? Thanks.
