909, cont wait to see the finished build, Grog, the tan 40 has the best/cleanest/straighest gap between fender and tub I have ever seen on a 40, even the supposed resto's come out wonky, and under that tank was good & mildly clean, it's in the right hands. Did you modify the 60 at all ?

The 60 got a Sniper and Dobinsons suspension as the big ticket stuff.

Clutch was hammered. Pilot bearing came out with the transmission in 20 pieces. It was on its last leg

It’s crazy because it’s clear someone has either rebuilt or resealed this motor at some point. It’s got zero leaks and a new rear main and oil pan.

I can’t believe they would have put that old s***ty clutch back in though.

Who knows.

I had to deploy the Kubota to get the turd 3 speed off the tranny jack and put the Valley hybrids H42/case on the jack.

I hauled a pallet of crap off. It’s going to start getting crazy weather wise here tomorrow so if I plan on getting anything done Friday in the shop I have to do it without having to open the north facing doors.

Put the 4 speed bellhousing and all 4 speed related parts back in then stuffed it all together. Texas Tan is a 4 speed now.

Huge upgrade over that turd non sync first gear.

Here is all the TECH I know exists in OEM print media …

I thought too my first rodeo it was a 4wd indicator type thing

It’s NOT on a microfiche slide I ever seen ?

Think is was a TSB bulletin parts reference only …

Maybe @cruiserdan knows more ?

Filled the T and Tcase with 90 wt then fixed the depth between the booster and the master. Owner said it has rear hot brakes at times so I think this will fix him up.

Then I got the 3 speed hump and made it a 4 speed hump. I’ve got a gasket coming from SOR tomorrow for it and then I can reinstall the interior.

Moving along the the second phase of this operation.

This cruiser has a shackle reversal which is not what I like at all. The springs are pretty old so to make a Dobinsons IMS work this crap has to come off.

It’s going to be a bit of a bear.

The Wizard came out and spit and cussed and told me this project sucks. I suck. My parts suck and then generally calmed down and told me what he wanted me to do.

I ran him off and buttoned up the rear. Got my Tom Woods shafts ordered. Ordered some tie rod parts. I’m hoping to get it all prepped so he can weld on the factory hangers while I’m off playing in Colorado.

Cowboy stayed under the Fatso wood heater all day. High was 21 degrees. It was 11 this am.

These donkey dong rear shackles are used to level out the shackle reversal. They are now in the scrap heap

This is a old rear spring next to a Dobinsons

4Plus flips and IMS are all part of “the formula” especially with these early 40s that share the same size shock front and rear. The above the spring configuration is gross

Do you put Tom Woods shafts in most of your builds and if so why?

I used to have my local shop retube and rejoint stock shafts. They usually took 2-4 weeks with he hounding them

Tom Woods literally makes them they day I order them and for $800 they may be $200 more per set and way way less hassle.

Great company and service

My 55 was the same deal when I started tearing into it. PO replaced some seals and the friction disc but left everything else. You've beat me to stabbing in the 4sp. Looks like Tan is gonna be another good one.
