TempGauge 101

Attached to this thread (temperature-calibration.pdf) is some information about testing and calibrating the stock FJ60/62 temperature gauge and sender. The method described is fairly well known and can be found elsewhere on the Internet if you search around. I'm not breaking any new ground here, but since there isn't a specific temperature calibration thread here on mud for the FJ60, I thought I'd post one up.

Also there is information about the behavior of the sender at higher temperatures and how that impacts the needle position on the gauge dial. A copy of my logs of a tested new sender is included as well.

The information here is presented as a downloadable single 5MB pdf file due to the number of images and the amount of information included.

Be sure to check out the thread "Burping the sender" before trying to calibrate your temperature gauge.

Also for an in-depth analysis on the internal workings of the 60 series temperature gauge, check out @Spook50 s excellent write up below.

Permanent fix (in progress): Fuel/temp gauge spiking (pics, not dialup friendly)

Thanks goes out to @HemiAlex for providing some valuable FJ60 gauge feedback>

Great idea.

Still keeping my fingers crossed that I can get my house back and actually produce my solid state regulators....

well I'll be...THANK YOU

Whoa!! Damn OS.... stellar work! It's going to take me about 6-weeks to digest this, but I'm printing it out and keeping it with my FSM's. Thanks.

Very nice work. Should be FAQ'd. !!!!

Though it's hard to argue with a mechanical gauge in an A-pillar pod - you'll never look at the stock gauge again. :D

FWIW, I still have the stock gauge with a 15 Ohm resistor and it reads at 1/3 when mechanical is about 195-ish.

Thank you, OS.

Wow! Part way thru and am looking forward to finishing during my sales meeting this morning :)
