Probably a dumb question, but is it locked?

Have you looked above the license plate to see if there is a latch there?
 
I don't see a "lock" button on the back( the rest of truck is power locks, and I've hit unlock), nore a lever under the Toyota above plate. I know window has to be down, but what else could it be???

Try the key hole in the tailgate. It could just be that the rear hatch isn't getting the power to unlock when you hit the button
 
Well, I found the problem, I couldn't find it last night, there is a "lock lever", which isn't powered. The key hole just does the back window, I got it now. ;$;)

Yep was trying to reply but couldn't except on my phone. There is a regular looking lock button just thicker on the driver side of the tail gate handle. It will also light up on the dash(unlocked) when you close the tailgate and do not lock it or as soon as you roll up the window the light will go off on the dash about being unlocked
 
Hmm, I must be missing that bulb, I know the very top 2 on left are empty sockets, I do believe one says Throttle, and maybe unlocked, didn't know what that had meant. Nice to know.

I know for the 60's we have a thread about replacing all the bulbs with LED. Does the 4runners have one with Socket styles...

Cody I got my wording confused .To the left of oil gauge on the dash if you leave the tail gate unlocked it will give a warning of "Back Door" , as soon as you roll up the rear window it will disappear ....also you will notice the "AT Oil Temp light" that is barley illuminated in the picture, That is the warning light that you are overheating the automatic transmission .

I'm having a helluva time trying to separate the TRE at the pitman arm! I'm on my 3rd tool rented and the one I have now is the most robust. I've tried heat then cool and beating on it all while under a bind with the separator and nothing. I've soaked it with PBS blaster 4 nights this week and it won't budge. I don't want to get too rough with it and have to replace the sector shaft. Does anyone have a trick?
 
Why heat then cool? I have always heard you want to do your work while it is hot before it cools and shrinks back up.
 
Two hammer's ... hit at the same time on opposite sides pitman...hit hard may take several hits!!!

Applying direct heat to the TRE threads, then dousing with water would cause the threads to experience a more drastic temperature change which in theory would cause a more drastic size change.

Anyway to put a puller on it to pull tension on it then club it a few times with a big mallet? Seems like I've used that technique with a few 40 gear boxes and it did the trick :)
 
Any any of the 88 first gen EFI 4 runner guys can y'all take a picture showing what the stock fuel lines look like around the fuel filter. Who ever changed it out in the past, put a bunch of American fittings on it, and cut a couple sections out. I have a union going from filter towards the engine, ahead of the trans x- member. And one after the lump that the line around the bracket. I need one fitting to get it working again, I'm gonna keep sure searching, but would love to know what factory looks like...


Also, my fuel line is painted Green, on all parts, Is the whole line factory, or is the whole line "new/customized"?

if ya gona play with your fuel line CN as how someone has started put it where U can get at it.
the factory location is just bout impossible to reach it is up under the intake at the#3 cylinder PITA
 
Actually. It's right above the cross member for the transfer/transmission. They changed it on the EFI trucks. I saw the crap version of it in the parts diagram of Toyota, but they only showed an excerpt for mine. ;(

The V-6 is along the frame rails, and the new lines are there because one of the previous owners stripped the threads and messed up the supply line trying to change out the filter. They also installed that new tank and fuel pump.

Only ones I have right now, all the lines were moved some for the crossmember I installed during my 3.4 swap.

is ther a reason why you have em under the cross member instead of above?
