I've never used a bearing packer. Obviously it would be cleaner than doing it by hand, but is there one out there that can pack it better than doing it by hand?

I know I sound like Scott not wanting to get my hands dirty, LOL. Though he does have a legit excuse. I guess I was thinking back to the one we had at the shop I put in some time at it really did a good job and greased it evenly and saved a lot of grease with 8 bearings to do I thought it maybe worth picking one up :)

I'll look at Sears, I think I'd like to add one to the box if I can find a decent one, thanks for the input John. Thanks Mike I don't think I'll get to chase down a Snap-on truck but its good to hear they have one that works and having a buddy to borrow one from is even better :)

My dad and I have never used one, even when he had his shop and Snap-on visited once a week. We always use our hands.

Some just like the feel of grease between their fingers, LOL. Certainly nothing wrong with that method :)

I wear gloves. Cleaner.

I have always wondered, if you had something like a hot plate to warm the grease and bearing in an old unwanted pot, would the grease just flow into and fill the bearing as it warms and thins?

EDIT and by "always wondered, I mean the idea popped into my head like 5 seconds ago, and I am sleep deprived but excited to go look at somethign tomorrow and cant sleep. and I ramble when i am tired.

That's some creative thinking bud, I would think the key is what temperature does it take for it to work into the bearing without breaking down the grease and would the process be acceptable vs the old packing it in method. Hopeful your outing today is a worthy trip for you bud, Cheers!

On a 60, is the fuel tank supposed to to have negative pressure??

Drove it some yesterday and when the engine is running the tank leak stops and does not start again for several hours. Open the gas cap to fill it and it draws a alot air. Truck runs fine, does not seem to be starving for fuel, just seems odd to have that much suction.

Yeah They actually do. It can such do much, sometimes it actually spits a lite gas out. Pretty cool. If you drive hard for a whole tank, you will actually wanna just turn the knob, but leave it in to suck it, then remove. I don't think a whole bunch is normal, but I remember reading somewhere that it's normal for a little.

Can anyone with a FSM help with these torque settings? I generally go by feel but wanted to be more precise to keep all the new bearings in check :) Thanks

71 ft/lbs for the trunion bolts and nuts

34 ft/lbs for the 8 spindle bolts

I would send you the file, but it's almost 48 MB

Thanks a bunch bud, I'll certainly take it if you don't mind sending it via emaillargefile.com I'm pretty sure I have a .pdf version of the 80 FSM on one of the hard drives I just couldn't find it last night. I need to put it on the website for easy access and it'll help the next guy :)

With the pull vehicle at the dealership and the white 4runner only needing a washing, tire repair, headliner, it will be road ready at that point J . I started to get the red 4Runner ready for summer. It needs a water pump replaced. While doing the pump I also picked up the parts for the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, thermostat, (timing belt water inlet pulley thing) . WHAT in the world was Toyota thing with the way they put the front of this 3.0 V6 TOGETHER  . I really really like the 4cyl 22RE in my other vehicles now.

over the years every time I do one I bitch & ask the same thing----and all I can come up with was there were:censor: NOT!

Yep when I did mine it was cause the cam seals were leaking, if I were you I'd look at changing them while you're in there. Oh and the crank seal also.
