Gentlemen,
Making great progress with the '79. My '79 was the was by far the least rusty of the five FJ55s I looked at buying in the Northwest. I confess that I don't post much in the way of my progress and such, but I can tell you that painting is a real chore - an expensive chore... I'm going back to original two tone red/white which makes it all the more challenging. I lack painting the tailgate and roof and then I'm done.
Today I re-installed the tailgate, which needed a great deal of work. Actually, when I look back on it, it everything I've done has been a lot of work...
Anyways, the tailgate is back on and I'm trying to re-install the tension rod. However, I've run into a stop point as I don't recall how the rod is attached to the gate - is it a pin or a screw / combo? I'm thinking it's a pin which is why I stopped for the day. If so, where oh where would I find a pin or more likely a suitable substitute?
Lastly, any advice on the installation sequence? This looks like it could be a hum-dinger to get on so maybe there is someone out there with some good advice!!!
