@TeCKis300, what's your current iteration of your hitch installed swing away party situation, there? I know you've gone through some iterations. What/how are you running it currently and how do you like it?

It’s the one horizontal surface that I can count on to be there and not full of crap when I need it.

Precisely.

Loading heavy stuff, not having to clear the bumper to reach the trunk floor. Just place the load on the tailgate and slide it in.
Not having to dirty my pants on the bumper when seating in the trunk.
A place to knee to reach stuff deep or high in the trunk w/o a ladder.
Being able to open the upper tailgate in the garage without hitting the door. W/o the split it would be too long.
For the upper part - not being rained/snowed in while the tailgate is open like with GX.

Also great points.

The product planning/marketing pipeline all pointed to keep the split gate as well, but then it was axed for a 19# weight savings.

I *hate* one-piece liftgates. I can't imagine not having a 2-piece tailgate now.

Where else are the dogs gonna sit when you're hanging out?

Tell me more about those Velcro tool holders on your drawers.
What frustrates me most is that In talking with some people at CruiseMoab that got to spend time with the engineering team, the 250/300 made it all the way to a sheet metal prototype with a split gate. The product planning/marketing pipeline all pointed to keep the split gate as well, but then it was axed for a 19# weight savings.

*THUMBS DOWN*
19 WHOLE EARTH POUNDS!

Next you’ll tell me they are making electric Ferrari’s.

I have some bad news for you 😂

Working beautifully and I use it every trip. It works like a built in chuck box and table that helps greatly to organize.

I did a minor mod to flip the chest box so the lid opens down (like a tailgate) instead of up. This buys me that precious bit more tabletop space both with the open lid flipped down and top of the box. I don't have a great pic of it deployed and will grab one next time I'm geared up for a trip.

The upper basket is optional and I'll only use it for longer winter trips where we need more gear.

Likely to have some creative tailgate uses on this thread, beyond the:
-staging area for loading
-food prep
-seat for eating/boot change
-easy access basic tool/glove storage compartment
-workbench
-roof access platform
-load securing wall when cargo area is brim full
-etc.

But frankly, I had no idea anyone would not love the tailgate.

I gave up beer years ago but feel like I’m really missing out on this tailgate beer phenomenon.

Has anyone brought up the pew pew? Tailgate makes a great spot when outside. Plus you can always hide a side piece in that back panel :)

I agree that the tailgate is one of the best things about the LX, although I prefer the slightly larger one on the 100 series. I'm already lamenting the fact that my next vehicle probably won't have one :(

Here's an undocumented feature that I discovered a while back. Beer (and other) cans fit perfectly on the latches for the toolbox cover! It's such a perfect fit that they practically "snap" into place!

My tailgate is a bit of a party foul, spot welds for the bracket that holds on the latch/cables are broken so it flexes considerably under load. The plan is to drill out the spot welds and put in a bolt to hold it together. Something to consider before having a dance party on your tailgate.

I find the tailgate most handy.

Wife getting herself a snack out of the fridge while out on the Goodsprings Mtns. Made a nice table to lay the food out and then a place to sit while eating.

I've had other SUVs without the tailgate. After my Tundra and now the LC, won't ever go without one.
