Tacoma vs FZJ80

You jump yours. I mean I remember when you lived in Germany and your truck was mostly in tact. Now your dash is gone, it's caged, and you jump the s*** out if it. I don't think it's really a fair comparison. I'll tell you the heavy 80 series won't hold up any better.

Most of my "broken parts" list is pre-cage, on 33's. After the cage it's mostly just been rear end problems, but I fixed that by swapping in a diamond axle with a 9.5" Landcruiser third. Now why would I go and do a thing like that?

My only experience with a Taco was a 95 that I rolled on it's side and broke an axle.

There is no way in hell the Tacoma is as strong as an 80. This is the most ridiculous discussion on MUD.

Why? The 2'd gen axles are bigger than 1st btw and comparing a roll over to wheeling isn't a fair comparison

I'll give you the frame is boxed and the rear axle is significantly stronger. 8" clamshell 8" I'm not sure stocj birfs are any stronger than the 2nd gen CVs. There are upgrades for both.

1grfe is a significant improvement, trans may be a wash, tcase a wash. Crawlbox available for taco.

steering is a wash in my mind, then 2nd gen rack and pinion are tough, you can twist a sector shaft on an 80 box.

And the Taco you can get new.

This is the most ridiculous discussion on mud? Have you read the things posted here?

Theres no doubt the rear is stronger. I replaced my 9.5 with a 14 bolt??? You got a nice rear!

I rolled because the rear axle snapped. Truck was 4 weeks old. Got caught in a rut by the side of a hill and dropped like a boat anchor and tossed me on my side. So yes, the comparison stands.

Yes, it's a ridiculous discussion because facts are not disputable. The 80 is a stronger, more durable vehicle. Fact.

I guess the one area the Taco is superior to the 80 is that you have factory cupholders. :flipoff2:

Nah, the 1st gen had smaller shafts than a 2nd gen.

Substantiate that. Refute what I said.

Fact, bears beats battle star galactica.

The 80 series has more interior room and comfort versus the taco you have to just toss your s*** in the back, hope that it doesn't blow out, get soaked in a rain storm or get ripped off. The 80 is more unique, prestigious and chicks dig them. The taco is more like wanting a Harley and having to settle for a Sportster.

^^^ This.

If you have to explain why an 80 is superior they'll never understand.

Sounds like a typical answer on a forum dedicated to 80 series.

I mean I get this is an 80 series forum but... I guess I don't think that highly of the 80 series as a stock platform.

Ya'll can be offended or you can actually refute what I've posted.

Oh and not many chicks dig a 20 year old Toyota wagon.

I like you Max, but I think it's time to let you in on the on something you can't get in an FJ, 4Runner, Taco, Jeep ChryslerFiat or Rover.

All 80 owners just know Steve McQueen and the 80 go together like an Enchilida and cold beer. That's right.

You only figure that out after you've owned the 80. Steve McQueen in a Taco? I think no.

Yes it is the expected answer from a forum dedicated for that very subject but seriously the stock 80 is amazing, I've seen it in person. It makes me question all the money I spent on mine except for the lift to gain ground clearance. Another reason for the answer is that a LoT people actually works on the 80 and wheels them.

A mild moded taco is ok at best(I had one), mildly moded taco is pretty good for mild stuff and starts to get dicy once things get a little harder.

Also chicks didn't dig my Taco either, they are dime a dozen. If chicks are a concern then I'd be driving a jeep.

Had both. Feel more confident in the 80. I loved my taco and my 85 22r, but the 80 is the bees knees. I think you just have to feel it. Nothing wrong with either vehicle for sure, but my 80 just feels so tough. It's also a lifestyle thing. I'm hauling a huge family around now, not just me. I know I have seen people do some impressive things in a lightly modded 80. That's not scientific, but I trust my own eye balls. You just have to see what people are doing in these things and forget about a spreadsheet.
