At my request, MSC Supply ( Industrial Supply Equipment from MSC Industrial Supply ) has set up an account for Tornado Alley Cruisers. There are no obligations or strings attached to the club- it's simply a way to increase our buying power while supporting a company that contributes to our club. It is a cash account, meaning if you wish to use it have your credit card available.

If you're unfamiliar with MSC, they are a competitor to Grainger and McMaster Carr. Their main catalog is over 4,000 pages and covers maintenance, metalworking, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, automotive maint, janitorial, safety, and hydraulic supplies as well as tools and fasteners/hardware.

I'm not affiliated with MSC- I'm just a loyal customer. 2 years ago I didn't deal with them at all, but now I spend approx $25,000/year with them through my job and also order from them for my personal use solely because of their pricing and customer service. They also donated prizes for the raffle at Flat Nasty 08, and I like to support companies that support my interests.

Our account offers several advantages over individual purchasing. They are:

1. Dedicated Account Rep available to adjust pricing. MSC is willing to be VERY aggressive with their pricing to beat their competition. Contact our account rep for a price quote and he'll give you an immediate discount off their list price. If you find the same item elsewhere for less, call them and they will beat that price as long as it's above their cost.

2. Group Buying Power. Higher volume allows for greater discounts.

3. A corollary to number 2- next year prior to Flat Nasty I'll be hitting them up for another donation. If they see that this year's donation generated new business, they'll be more inclined to increase their contribution for 2009.

Kelly (2fpower) and I have already ordered from them. I picked up a quart of POR-15 semi gloss black for $31.38 last week, which is easily the best price I've been able to find. In the past I've purchased M6 stainless bolts for my hard top for 40% less than I could find locally.

Our account number is 3673695. Our account rep is Chris Gibble. His contact info is:

800-933-7264 x465034
gibblec@mscdirect.com

If you want to check pricing or place an order, contact Chris and mention our account number or TAC. Give him your address and he'll send you a Big Book (master catalog) if you'd like. Chris is also my company's account rep, and I talk to him several times a week. He's a Land Rover nut and owns a 2nd gen Discovery, but I'm slowly converting him to cruiserdom. He's also a genuinely nice guy.

If you prefer to order off the website, we can have them set up a username and an across the board discount. Contacting Chris will yield better pricing, but some folks might prefer the speed/convenience of web ordering. For now I've kept it simple just to gauge interest and get some initial feedback. I'm interesting in hearing comments and/or criticisms and suggestions.

this comes in at a perfect time. I am needing to get a plasma cutter.

I wanted to reiterate that they are great place to buy, and they supported Flat Nasty pretty good. If we buy more from them, who knows what we can get next year for the gifts.

Howdy all-

Just wanted to report that I made an order with MSC a couple weeks ago, and had a couple problems-- BUT KEEP READING -- here is the important part, our rep, Chris was awesome, and took care of everything, and then some. It was really great talking and working with him to get the stuff. Here are some ideas of pricing. He said to just mention the pricing when you place an order, and he will get it done. ALSO, we got set up with free shipping. No minimum. What a kickin' deal!

Gallon of POR 15 for under $100

Gallon of Marine clean (POR 15 cleaner) for under $20

Gallon of Metal Ready (POR 15 etcher) for under $30 (yes I said gallon)

4" twisted wire brush for grinding rust. $13

I got a set of Cobalt drill bits I think 64 bits for $100.

If you need anything metal related, or industrial for what you work for or where you work at, give him a try. I first tried this out because he supported us at the Flat Nasty, however now I feel that I am getting the most bang for my $$$.

If nothing else, go to MSCDIRECT.com, look on the right side near the bottom and you can view their sales fliers. Be ready to spend some time. They are huge, and the prices are really good -- and then when you call Chris, he can usually give you a better price.

Well, I will step off the soapbox, but give him a try..... and see where it leads.

This still an option.. I've been using Fastenall but I think i'll switch. need some anchors and stuff this summer.. Possibly epoxy for the floor.

I have been ordering from him still. GREAT deal, and great products. Besides Chris is a great guy, with a little baby now (1 year old). No FJ yet, but we keep working on him.

GO online to MSC direct, make a list and then I just shoot Chris an email. Remember that he can offer discounts, so you pay much less than what MSC online shows. Discounts change based on what his margin is.

The fasteners (stainless) are pennies compared to Fastenall.

Can you pm me his email. I am working on my list.

I have a few things to order, too. I will email you my speadsheet of items and prior costs, (which he honers) with his address when I get home tonight

When you talk to Chris, tell him that Andrew Franklin said not to worry about his margin, "cheap" is the target price. He'll hook you up. If he doesn't, let me know and I'll be sure he never hears the end of it :grinpimp:

Just got my first order (kept forgetting about the account) Wow was that easy as said before Chris is great to work with, and I defiantly saved money. Free next day delivery was unexpected. I am already making a wish list for the next order.

x2 on Chris.

I gave Erik my 2009 MSC big book. I will try and drop the 2010 book off to you at the chili cookoff. It is quite a read. Kind of like a kid at a candy store.

anywho.... Just got my latest order today too. Always happy with him and the quality of product at cheap price.

Andrew will enjoy the case of caution orange spray paint for us to string up against a sheet of MDF and try to shoot at 200 yards with WWII vintage firearms. Too boring to watch through a scope to see if you hit. Figure $1.87 per can of bright paint is easy fix when you are spending 40 cents a round.

Always wanted an M1 or M1 carbine.. Mmmmm History.. My grandfather carried an M1 Carbine. If I wasnt' spending all my extra $ on home improvements and Cruisers i'd probably be getting ahold of ODCMP

Yeah. My nickname for the Mauser is Ol' black and blue.

'Cause that how my shoulder looks after I shoot it.

I have a WHOLE new respect for WWII soldiers.

From the guys that have ordered from MSC, is it better to reach Chris via phone? I emailed him last week but haven't heard back from him. Didn't know if he was on vacation or if calling him was the best way to get a hold of him.

Give him a call. Remember he is east coast time.
