I have a 1994 landcruiser with 240xxx miles I was wondering if someone could give me any input about putting on a TRD supercharger! Is it safe with that many miles??Should I rebuild engine first???The cruiser has only had syn. oil ran in it from first oil change..I just don't want to put it on and blow the engine.:crybaby:Any input someone can give me would be great!!!

Cruiserdan has one on a '94. That year vehicle is not as "smart" as later year models and it requires some things like methanol injection and such. It sounded too involved for my taste.

I have one on my '97--this is essentially forgotten until having to fill up with premium.

forgoten because it doesnt produce much more power, or because its so reliable that its like running the car with out modification?

It is certainly faster than the '94--especially at altitude and towing. The sc'd 97 is still not a fast vehicle. The SC itself has not been a problem and has done fine. If you want to burn rubber and go 0-60 in 8 seconds, it is not going to do it.

I personally am not technical enough to be comfortable with a sc'd '94.

I seem to remember HP going on 95 from 212 to about 290.. :meh:

to the Original Poster: IF you were going to do it, you would need to make sure your engine was in top shape... Rad, water pump, head gasket all seals, all hoses, etc. Should check pistons and rings for good compression, etc. Basically, if you are going to spend 3K on a SC, and almost as much if you want someone to install it, you'd better make sure the engine is in damn good condition.

Thanks for input!!I really wasn't looking to make my cruiser "fast" just not so much of a dog!Going up mountains and towing... seems like your struggling or in passing gear most of the time.So as far as I know there isn't really anything to give 93-94 more horsepower?????

Gearing will help a bit--4.88 or 5.29

Advancing the timing will provide a bit more pep.

Making sure everything is top-notch in terms of maintenance will help a lot.

On my '94, I am going Beno's route. Having moved from below 1,000 feet to 6,500 feet my '94 cruiser had problems.

The '94 is anemic as far as speed and has had the timing advanced. That helped a bit with acceleration--it then caused it to have AC shutdowns on climbs. Slowed down and AC would come back quickly. The fan clutch mod helped overheating. It is still slow. Regearing is looking like a possibility.

I do have 4.88 gears.I also am very good about PM. How much should I advance the timing! Is there anything else???Most of the guys around here are jeep or someother form of american built rig!I always drove Toyota's and as far as I'm concerned they are the best!!!Show me american rigs with 200,000 to 300,000 miles on them that run as good as Toyota's do:)!!!!!!With that many miles they feel like their falling apart right underneath you!!

Dude, it's a pig. Enjoy the scenery.

I drive mine over 11K foot passes with six people and gear onboard. Best thing to do if you have an 80 is live someplace where the view makes you smile, because you are going to spend some time looking at it :D

I would not put a blower on a 93/94. We did a few years ago and they never really worked well on the 93/94 due to the fuel management on those trucks.

Care to give more detail on this? I recently purchased a late 93 with a TRD supercharger and it seems to be just fine other than a bit of fast idle at start-up I haven't figured out yet. Only had it a few weeks though.... What kind of problems should I be watching for?

Convert it to 3Fe POWA!!!

You want a high speed expedition quality SUV? If you're even considering a S/C then you might as well just go to a gas guzzling V8..

B/c no matter what you do, you'll never escape the laws of PHYSICS!

S/C, V8, V10, or hell the 1Fz... They'll all get piss poor MPG.

How many times do you have to get the beat down before you stop doing this? The guy didn't ask about a V8. He asked about a super charger.

IDK, about as many times as you have to start s***?

Who cares? I offered advise (looks in posting rules) b/c somebody might think it's not a good idea to put forced induction on a 240k mile motor?

(Are you advocating he should do that?)

So lets see... 1: Won't be happy AFTER a S/c purchase and install...

2: His 1Fz will need a rebuild...

And 3: Obviously MPG is of NO concern to the OP....

#4: Save all that stiff and go DIRECTLY to what will make you happy. To me that's logic. Not throwing money blindly at a wall and hoping it sticks... Like some would do.

excuse the living out of me for saving the dude a few thousand, and a TON of aggravation!

I'm sorry all. I'm used to posting in a place that's not so uptight and actually allows humor.

Sorry OP. Sorry, all.

Unless I missed it, he didn't say anything about gas mileage. Why will he be unhappy with a super charger? He just wants more power, but not a fast truck. Won't the addition of a super charger result in a vehicle with more power, but not a fast truck?

All I can see is that he asked about adding a super charger to a motor with 240,000 miles. I didn't see where he asked for an opinion from a raving derelict as to whether or not it would be better to put in a 3fe or a V10 or do another engine swap, or the laws of PHYSICS.

Next, you'll tell him that it's okay to run a super charged motor without the s/c belt.
