Yup! Although I don't think fast is the word, just not slow.;)

When I compare mine (bored .040 and SC'd) to mountjoy_99's (just SC'd), it's got noticeably more nut, and I have a boatload more weight.

So your Cometic MLS head gasket has custom bore dia. and stack height? Could you still check the part number they sent? I'm still curious if the part number listed in post #8 is the correct part for stock application.

Also curious about Robbie's impression of this gasket. Aside from the ability to adjust compression, does he think it would it be a good gasket for a stock motor? The oem head gasket for the 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE inline 6 motors are MLS and widely accepted as bulletproof. The 3FE and 1FZ must have been designed before this type of gasket was approved for use internally at Toyota. I've searched for a MLS gasket for the 1FZ before, but come up empty. I know the new oem gasket is vastly improved and now seems to be a closed issue, but a MLS gasket could be another great option. MLS is now the industry-standard solution for cast iron blocks with aluminum heads.

BTW, the rebuild looks great! Good luck with it.

Please post some links for more information on these 2 statements. I am not challenging this but I would like to do some research and I don't want to hi-jack this thread or get it off on a HG tangent. I don't think the cost (~$170) of a MLS HG would be a deterrent for most of us.

Very nice. :cheers:. Ported head too.. I would like to do that when I do my rebuild (don't know when). Could you provide some numbers on porting, i.e. how much was ported, what was the stock measurement and etc.. I'd appreciate it.. :)

I agree that it's not a deterrent for most of us, but it was the only downside I know of.

Can you elaborate on the Supra pump being a waste of time and money? The pump was about twice the size of my stock pump and designed to feed dual turbos? However, nobody can seem to show the flow rate for the Supra TT pump.




I have a wideband that is going to be installed in the dual A-pillar mount. I went with an Auto Meter (Part # 4378).

I also picked up a Pyrometer kit from Auto Meter as well (Part # 4345).

The last item so far is a Fuel Management Unit (FMU) made by Vortech (Part # VOR-6Z110-114). We chose the 8:1 due to the truck running the stock S/C pulley. This FMU is rebuildable and you can change the aspect ratio if it doesn't meet your needs.

The Cometic HG part # is C-4530 and then you just change/add the last three digits to meet your bore increase.

the stock Fuel pump has proved to be more than adequate for the job at hand. I'm sure it's not going to be a problem but then again I don't see it as an advantage either.

The autometer wideband will not read below 10.0 AFR i think while the innovate will read as low as 8.0. This has help on the 95+ trucks as they tend to have an AFR greater than 10.0 at WOT stock.

I had a BEGI RR FPR but gave it to a fellow SC'd 93 truck. It will be nice to see how well it does for those trucks. The downfall of these is that it responds to pressure and the actual density of the air can change while the pressure doesn't which lends to fluctuating AFR readings.

The 1JZ and 2JZ motors from the Supra turbos come stock with a MHG. The earlier Supra the 7MGTE did not and suffered many BHGs with boost levels above the stock 6ish levels. All 7M owners going for big numbers install the MHG. You can see plenty about this on the site: 7M-GTE Technical Discussion - SupraMania ...this is a direct link to the 7MGTE section.

That's what I told a buddy of mine that fabs for Rod Hall. He asked if it was going to be fast? I said probably "Acceptable," but not fast. We will see.

If there is a four wheel dyno around I'd be game (I know there is not one in Reno). I'm not expecting the numbers to be all that impressive. It wasn't that much of an increase in displacement and I don't think we are going to increase the boost right off the back.

My goal was to build this engine to be strong and perform well with the s/c. I wouldn't mind going all out an another one in the future. Kind of like a multi year build up on the totally wild side.

I have promised to leave the boost alone for awhile...so we will have to see. I did use the stock rods as they are very beefy and balanced nicely. Much like the crank in this thing.

I did get a quote on those billet rods from UAE and while they are very beautiful, I passed at a little over a thousand bucks for six rods. Maybe in the next one HAHA!
