Need some help guys figuring something out.

So it's been kinda rainy down here for the past 2 months and I haven't really been able to get the girl out much other than a few laps around the block (doors off and in pieces for painting and a bikini top). Once before the clutch has gotten stuck from sitting for a while but turning it over in gear the the clutch engaged popped it out and did the trick...

Well today is suppose to be nice and sunny with rain the rest of the week, so I got her out this weekend to check fluid levels and turn her over. She's only been sitting up for about 3 weeks since the last trip around the block. So the clutch was stuck. Turned it over in reverse with the clutch engaged, it lurched but didn't unstick. I've since tried about 30 more times, in every gear and nothing. master and slave are working, took the clutch plate off (now i'm not super technical in this area so this is my best shot at explaining) you can see the throw out bearing engaging but the "fingers" (i think that's the right word) are not moving or disengaging from the flywheel.

Without too much crap (hey i'm trying) anybody have any ideas?

Thanks guys,
-Brian

Everyone on here appears to be graphic oriented...LOL Pictures? Maybe someone will see something wrong if you get a picture up inside the bellhousing? Also I had the same thing you are describing happen. But it turned out to be a bad pilot bearing that was galled up and causing my issue? Good luck. Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly?

I'll try and get some pictures at lunch, I should have taken some last night but by the time we gave up on it, it had started to get dark.

The clutch is operated by a hydraulic slave cylinder. First, I'd check the fluid reservoir and fill it with brake fluid. Next, I'd bleed the air from it just as you bleed air from the brake lines - this is a lot easier with 2 people!! If that doesn't do the trick, due to clutch wear, you may have to mechanically adjust the rod that the slave cylinder operates. It's the one that fits into the socket area of the actuating lever on the side of the bell housing. Also, unfortunately it kind of sounds like the springs may be worn or broken inside of the pressure plate.

Mines done such a thing before. It was incomplete release of the pressure plate. It didnt matter how far I pushed it (by increasing the slave rod length), it would not disengage.

It turned out to be a broken spring that tilted the plate on release.

Unfortunately for me, I think you guys might be right about the springs, If i loosen the pressure plate should I be able to see the springs enough to determine if that's it, or are we talking full disassembly?

If it has just been parked for the past few months, the disk may be rusted to the flywheel or pressure plate. Remove the inspection cover and have someone hold down the clutch pedal and check if the disk is free from the PP and flywheel. If you, use a chisel or screw driver to pry them apart. You may need to loosen or remove the pressure plate bolts that hold it to the flywheel to get enough separation.

did this and it's not releasing (removed the cover plate and looked while pressing the clutch pedal), we were going to try this first (prying), but i just don't see how it could have "stuck" that bad that turning it over in gear wouldn't pop it loose. will let you guys know what we find tonight.

I'll still try to post some pics... cause i know you guys like to gawk :flipoff2:

Hi guys,

Old post, but it helped me out. After leaving my 80 series idle in the wet season of Darwin NT for 2 months, my clutch also got stuck to my flywheel. My neighbour who is a mechanic said they had rusted together and I would need a new clutch.

After trying to start it in gear once, I left it and jumped on the forums. Brian tried a bunch of times, so I jumped back in and tried forward - reverse two or three times and It came loose. Cheers

This might be redneck solution, but I'll throw it out there. I used to know a guy who raced Audi's (think sleeper s6) and when his clutch got stuck he would get it started and moving and crash stop with the brakes to break it free.

One solution is to get the truck pointed in a safe direction with lots of open space, start it in 2nd and drive it around as you go on / off the throttle with the clutch pedal pressd until it breaks free. A second solution (somewhat sketchy and requires a helper) is to point the truck in a safe direction, jack up the rear until the wheels are off the ground, start it in 3rd or 4th gear, press in the clutch pedal and have your helper quickly drop the floor jack with the wheels spinning. Just make sure it's not in reverse!
