A basic alarm will help, at least a little. You can also install some sort of cut off, either ignition or fuel. Get creative. It's pretty easy to cut off the fuel pump (EFI electric) or to dissable the ECU, coil, etc.

the more you disable, the harder it is to take, than it is likely it will stay were you left it.

If it takes someone more than 5 minutes to get it running they are pretty likely to abandon it... That said they may also be more likely to cut open all your seats and key it as a thank you....

My favorite quick "no steal it" move was a suggestion to leave the Transfer case in Neutral, potentially stumping non-4wheelers, and really unsuspecting drivers of any kind. Not a fail safe by any means but clever and quick. Fun to imagine as well.

Used in conjunction with a battery disconnect hidden a bit it might be all you need.
Honestly, Pulling the main ignition lead and stashing ( or just loosening ) it is a good preventative too.

No work = no steal unless they plan on towing it away...

I like the simple tricks over clubs and alarms and such. Esp. on old trucks.

A real simple way to disable a truck is to just pull the EFI fuse (or the ignition fuse) and put the cover back on.

update:
truck was recovered. apperently by non toyota thieves.
all they took was the stereo and everything else in it

i suspect they aint targeting toyotas well cuz its mainly intact plus the hot wired it.
