Hair dryer.

But after all this time, you're gonna see an outline of the sticker in the faded paint. My '87 had stickers on it from the factory, someone removed them before I got it in '01, and I can see where they were in the hood.

your gonna need heat to get the main part of the sticker soft enought to peel up. Then you will need some prep solve (solvent used to clean surface before painting a car - autozone has it) to get the gooy residue up. You will probably need to buff the paint as the paint under the sticker will be much brighter that the stuff around it.

I used heat gun to get stickers off then used brake cleaner to get the sticky adhesive off.

Auto body supply stores carry decal eraser wheels that work with 1/4 in die griders but would also work in a drill. They are a somewhat soft rubber compound that doesn't do damage to the paint.

Speak to your autobody paint store, 3M makes a tool for what you want to do. Prepare to loose a few hours of your life to do it.

yeah i attempted this... that would have taken me 3 days! the heat gun is the fastes way to get the stripe off. it comes right off

I would avoid the heat gun since it can remove paint. Shoot, you can melt solder with a heat gun. Hair drier is a compromise but I would still be careful.

I used a 2400 psi pressure washer on my '85 to remove the outer portion of the stickers, which left the adhesive. I then used goo-gone to remove that. Worked like a charm. You can still see a slight lip along the edge, but that's wayyyyyyyyyy better than the burnt orange stickers!!!!

That depends on the condition of the decal, mine was cracked in a million pieces and would of taken 3 days to pick all the pieces off. He did ask for options and both methods work.

Make sure you don't use brake FLUID...
