I just purchased my second 1974 FJ40 - had to sell the last one years ago, due to moving, and finally picked one up again.

When first driving, the steering seems to lock up when turning hard left or right. It feels as though the brakes are engaged, almost lurching forward when cold. This resolves within a minute or two or driving. The e brake is not on.

There’s no significance leakage around the front knuckles. Any thoughts?

Super pumped to start working on this!

Are the wheel limiter stops set correctly? My term may not be correct but I'm talking about the turning radius stops.

When was the last time the steering box was checked to see if there was gear oil in it? If its leaked out, pump it full of grease.

Mine will do that a wee bit when in 4lo with hubs locked.
