A few videos on You Tube show that you must lift the engine/transmission in order to get clearance to remove & replace the steering rack. Is this true? Replaced one on a Sequoia a few years ago and was not necessary.

Lifted mine and replaced the motor mounts while it was loose. (Turns out they were shot.)

Nothing to it. Floor jack under the bellhousing and lift a couple inches. Used a prybar to finagle it a bit, if I recall.

How many miles on the rig? Wondering how long the engine and trans mounts last. I haven't looked at mine in a while.
330k-ish miles. One was completely separated.

Remove driver side (DS) two engine mount, separating at plate. Very easy
Remove bolts securing fan shroud. Otherwise as you lift DS of engine. You may break shroud and or fan blades.
Remove oil filter. Can be done without draining oil pan. Oil filter can be reused.
Bend oil filter drain shoot, upward a little bit. After job done bend back down. I like to angle with front lip lower.
Place jack under bellhousing on DS. Jack engine up a few inch. What your heat tees and fan shroud. Don't jack up so far as to damage them.

Or FSM method, which I never do. Is to remove oil filter housing bracket. Many after done that way, leak oil. Then I must go in a reseal.

There is much more to the job. Somewhere I've more on this in mud, and many others have posted procedure also.
One thing many have issue with is the High Pressure (HP) banjo bolt and Lower Pressure (LP) line flare nut. IIRC, they're 17mm socket on the bolt.
17mm flare nut crows foot socket, on LP flare nut.

HP line banjo bolt out.

Sorry no picture of tool on flare nut of LP line. But with right tools, it's easy to remove these.

During install, thread on by hand. Make sure you do not force and damage threads. Use new gaskets (washers) on HP. Torque all to spec.

Oh first this is flush out all fluid from PS. Clean reservoir while at it and replace any leaky hoses or lines.

The only thing a 100 and a Sequoia have in common is the engine and trans. Literally everything else is different.

Very very important. In the 03-07 LX470, which has VGRS. Do not pound intermediate shaft in direct of steering wheel. Doing so can damage actuator a $3K part.

What's really cool, if one has VGRS. Steering wheel can be centered, through tech stream. Then we don't need to be overly concerned with nialing the intermediate shaft on pinion. Just need close.

Also note the OEM pinion. Has helpful centering rack, paint marks.

I just did my wife's GX470 rack. I found that removing the outer tie rods was extremely helpful as well. This may not be an issue on an LX.
