Who sells a new or rebuilt steering gear box for a late 1985 FJ-60 or a 62?

Redhead Steering Gears.com sells rebuilt ones. You can send in your gearbox and they will rebuild it for you. If you go with them be sure to find out if they will send you a shipping label so that they can be charged. They might have one on there shelf they can ship to you after you send in the core. They are pricey. West Texas Offroad.com supposedly rebuilds, also. I was in touch with Georg at Valley Hybrids but he never got back to me. Ebay sells them.

West Texas is your best bet, unless you need a box. Then I'd scour the classifieds. You can get an 80 box to fit as well if you happen to come across one.
Isn't there a potential problem with the 80 box that the sector shaft "SHOULD" be replaced as it is not as strong? Or am I thinking of something else?

The sector shaft is the same diameter and strength as the 60/62 shafts but the power piston is larger in diameter. There is an upgrade available of a slightly larger taper section that can be retrofitted with a new Pittman arm, but it doesn't have to be unless damaged. Although if I were sending out my 80 series box, I would have them do the upgrade. The upgraded sector shaft is out of a 105 series Land Cruiser.
Early and late 60 boxes have different bolt patterns. The change is roughly Nov 1984.
Right. This one I knew about, isn't it that the early model has straight/aligned bolt hole configuration where as the later model into the 80s has a slight offset to the bolt hole configuration? I am not sure why I thought there was an issue with the 80 sector shaft on the 60s and thus the 105 sector shaft upgrade was usually a warranted upgrade if you were doing the swap. Sounds like you can pretty much swap as long as you know the box is good without issue (unless you are doing hard wheeling).

Is the fj-80 box a bolt in or any changes? I found a rebuilt one for $390.
Should be a direct bolt in for later model 60s (think 10/84 and newer)

I started a thread about this today. Mines leaking and want to add hydro assist. Got replies back on a rebuild kit that’s pretty affordable. Also found a good video showing the ins and outs of the gearbox.

The 80 steering box bolts right in, But the hoses are different if you try and use the high pressure one from the fj60 with the 80 box it will leak.It looks the same, and will screw in but not a tight seal. Going to try a hose for the fj-80, May have to get a pump for the 80 also?
I just bought an 80 box for my 60. I was under the impression that it would be a direct bolt in. I hope the hoses or pump don't need to be changed as that would not be cost effective for me. Please post up what you find. Thanks

Cross-checking several parts sources, it APPEARS that (late) FJ60's and FJ80's share the same parts #s for steering box hoses , fittings, and pump. Do a search.. other mudders have have done this swap with no plumbing problems. Here's hoping.
