I got the hinge in today. anyone have a press or the ability to press in bearing races? looks like they need to go down inside the outer hinge a little bit.

Autozone will rent the hammerable race sets, if that would help you.

A vice will also work if they will fit between the jaws. I enjoy projects like this. Nice work, especially bending the diamond plate. Pretty work. Makes me want to go into the garage and melt something together. :grinpimp:

Shawn,

what are you using for the hinge? I was under the assumption you'd be using a trailer stub axle/hub for this application.

I changed my mind. it was going to be a FJ40/60 or mini spindle w/ lockout hub. but, the spindle for Toyota is not flat on the back side like the Dana 44 is. for time constraints, I went with the EMS Off Road hinge and latch for $75+ shipping.

yesterday and today got the front box supports finished, lid for the box bent, and templates for the rear box made. almost time to find someone to do up the TIG welds on all the corners. then I can mount the hinge for the lid. pics-

almost did it to myself this morning. it was flashing sunlight into my rear view mirror coming home from work.

anyone TIG weld? I'll need someone who can weld mild steel better than me as well early next week.

gotta work on the 40 tomorrow for the shake down run on Sunday.

I got the major mig and tig done today. at an exorbiant cost, but it's done. $120 for those that don't talk to my wife...:flipoff2:

pics tomorrow or Friday of the next steps. I've done a bunch of work but not much that's pic worthy.

mostly done with the rear swing out. just need to drill and box in the storage box, and install the latch. here are some pics. of the design.

here is the lock open part. just will use a bolt through the holes shown. also found that the clearance under the axle is outstanding!

dude,

I wonder what's causing your new fuels pumps to die - it's puzzling for sure. :hhmm:

All those pretty new shiny parts and your trailer bed looks like something that should be be rotting away in a corn field somewhere. Why don't you at least rattlecan the bare spots? Of course then it wouldn't match your truck :flipoff2:

 they were rattle canned at one point. it was stored outside for a while, which faded it all back out. now it's is at least under shade. I'll get to that part if there's time. but don't worry, the shiny parts will fade to match eventually.

Hey that thing looks great. How much home made beer can it hold?
Oh you should airbag that thing, Ali knows everything there is to know
about that, just ask him.

David,

You gotta post up here more often and pad your post count. My gad man, you're only at 48? If you only posted here as much as you talk, you'll be up there in no time :flipoff2:

more finish up work done. front box lid is on. rear box is covered and just working on the lid. it's proving harder than the front for logistical issues. middle pic is of the weather strip. it's kinda hard to see.

and David, I was talking to Eden about mounting a RV water tank under the front of the bed and he said I should put kegs there and a beer faucet where the fuel inlet was.
