My 2009 has quite a bit of transfer case whine when in 4LO. More than I've heard in my other 4x4s. Is this normal for the platform?

I am looking for a recovery kit for a stock 200. Can someone recommend one?

Also, is it right for me to believe that the stock front and rear points are not rated and shouldn't be used? For the rear I could get a receiver shackle but what about doing a pull from the front?

These are as stout as you'll find:

Single hunk of metal. They come with new bolts that replace the two you remove from teh stock recovery points on the 200. The hole is shaped as it is in order to allow the thread bulge of a full size shackle to fit through. They are STOUT. ARB recovery points, at about $84 each side.

Any idea where those can be purchased? I had them on order from Cruiserheads since last MAY, but they flaked out on me. Then he had them on ebay for us$100 each (plus shipping) but even those are gone now. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

I bought one from Cruiser Outfitters (they only had one) and the other from a dealer on eBay. I think I paid $90 for the second one...

I think they are just kind of obscure. How many US 200/LX owners care to do these? Probably not many.

I'd probably call Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters and see if he can sell you (or order) one... They had the one in stock, so I assume they can get them...

I don't know if we have any on the shelf but we've sold dozens of them and always have them on stock or en route from Australia. Give us a shout @ Cruiser Outfitters

I'll be reaching out too! I currently have just one installed and have been trying to source a second!

I have the ARB recovery points as well, oddly enough I had to get them one at a time like you other guys. Wonder why they didn't sell them as pairs?

Generally they are installed as a single item in Australia. I can think of few scenarios in which you would need a pair of them.

We (Cruiser Outfitters) are out of stock of them as of Friday but have more en route. We'll take back orders for them and ship them as they arrive from Australia.

The stock front are rated for recovery. The rear should be as well but for some reason Toyota recommends not using it and instead says it's only intended for shipping tie-down.

I'm wondering if that's just a carry-over warning from what shipped with the100 series. The 100 had a weird, thin, strangely shaped black hook in the front that was definitely NOT for recovery. But the 200? Both the front and rear points are pretty strong. I replaced my fronts because they were thin and stuck down farther than necessary, but not because of weakness.

I didn't see the front ( or back for that matter) had any stamped numbers for a rating. Would you run a shackle through the fronts like you did for the ARBs? Not sure I'm comfortable with that.

my SQOD: I'd like to have a back-up key hidden underneath the vehicle permanently, yet don't want to risk damaging an expensive FOB. Might it make sense to remove the mechanical key from a FOB and hide this under the vehicle? will a FOB perform all functions without the mechanic key? seems like it could get me out of a jam someday.....
thoughts?

I don't know, but I'm sure you could simply try it and find out by removing the key and going for it...

That is what I do. Put the mechanical key for doors where it is accessible from outside. Then put the fob with battery removed inside. Seems to work fine.

I've thought about this as well and considered taking the battery out of the spare fob, putting the battery and key fob in a zip lock bag, then hiding both together in a locking mount under the truck. My fear would be it falling off at some point and not realizing it until I needed it or something like that. As much as the keyless start system is convenient, for extended backcountry adventures I like having a plain old key!

I've been doing this for years. I just back it up with a heavy duty zip tie to ensure it stays where I put it. I've never needed it but comforting to know it's there when in the middle of no where.

Problems with my DVD player: When I insert a disc it plays on the front screen (I am in Park), not on the rear screen. When I shift to drive the front screen loses the picture (for obvious reasons) yet the pic still does not appear on the rear screen-DVD audio plays. It has worked before. Here is the display on the rear screen. Any suggestions?
