Axles are bolted up underneath still tones of work to do but definitely put a smile on my face to see this!

The picture was taken with the new tire sitting next to the axle not bolted up... but the full weight of the truck is on the axle and the tire is at roughly the correct height so I guess this is my new ride height... :hillbilly:

Less than 2 days left...

I guess you'll be using transit :D

It'll settle some so not really a correct ride height. Looks pretty tall now. But it is a very satisfying feeling! Go enjoy a

You underestimate my absolute hatred of public transit..

Here you see my official bumper height testing mechanism!

So, you'll taking Monday off to finish?:D

Looks like you're currently about 2 cans higher than mine...
:steer:...

:hhmm:...

33s and more or less factory height... 1-2" over most non lifted 40s I've seen.

Update!

Well its finally time for a bit of an update:

Thanks to Cam I now have the power steering box mounted (saginaw) and the links connected so the wheels now turn with the steering wheel!

Also if anyone was wondering you can definitely mount 70 series axles under a 40 without out-boarding the springs, you do have to grind the one spring perch a fair bit though.

Trying to find a good angle to grind from... The truck is a lot bigger now:

please don't waste money on making shocks fit the stock shock towers. Buy the ford towers and get the correct length shocks.

Is this because the stock towers are shorter?

We measured to have 19 inch compressed length shocks with relocated stock towers. This gives about 4 inches of and 15 inches of downtravel... By my math at least...

I don't want to be pushy about this subject but I want you to be happy after you have put all this work into your truck. What is the travel of the shocks? 19" compressed length doesn't give you 19 inches of travel. You probably have a 14" travel shock. You will loose at least an inch of height out of those springs if not more like 2" from now til after your first wheeling session. I think most guys go with the 40/60 or 30/70 up/down ratio. I honestly think you should be leaving at least 6 or 7" of up travel from where you sit now with the weight on the axles. You do not want that shock to bottom if you hit something at high speed. There is a reason that everyone on this site puts Ford shock towers on when they do a SOA. I think someone did a thread or page on extending the stock ones, might be in tech links.

Ah ic... Does make sense... I think what I'll do is run the stock ones for a couple weeks and see what sort of settling I get... I can always return the shocks to lordco haha those rancho lift springs are pretty stiff compared with the bagged 60 springs most guys run and also shorter too. We put zip ties on the shocks to see how much up travel I'm getting... I would think its quite possible I could run the same shocks with ford towers even...

The good news is I drove andy home today! We even got the rear drive shaft shortened to the right length!

Huge thanks to Cam for all of his help!

I'll put some more pictures up when I find my laptop

My liver sure was happy to see "Andy" heading down the road under his own power. If ever see another case of fine Lucky lager it'll be too soon. I think every aspect of this project went over budget, I bet Steve was counting on one 15 case perhaps 2 tops. When we finally finished we had guzzled the better part of 6 cases. With some help from Grayam. The mornings were slow going while we moaned and complained. Some good work got done during the 2 hour window in which the hangover had subsided and we were'nt trashed yet. Then by the end of the evening we were just trying not to kill ourselves with the sharp tools and spinning/sparking/noisy things.

All in all it was a fun project. There are a few loose ends to tie up here and there but Andy should be trail ready in no time.

Steve: Thanks for the beer and all the lunches!
