yeah, I was going to point you to that one too.

course, I was kinda tempted myself, wouldn't mind the low first of a 5 speed, although the rest of the gear spacings suck ass

you add can getting rid of those gay little spark plugs to your to-do list....

If you do it at the same time, you'll only have to figure out driveshafts once...:hillbilly:

Haha agreed on that... but I don't know how I can do a engine/tranny swap + spring over + power steering+ axles + disk brakes... in a week :P haha and that's all the time I have during spring break...

So I might have to figure out drive shafts twice.... doing some 3b swap reading and we'll see...

you can always re drill your spring pads to fudge a little wheel base if it'll make a stock drive shaft fit, even if its shortening the wheelbase until you do the engine swap.

Only in Land Rovers...

yes. this is correct, I'll be no help to you at all...:flipoff2:

( tho technically that was an fj55 frame....)

did a couple in 40s and a 45 too. hardest part is getting the motor mounts in the right spot, it's nice if you can find a couple stock ones to copy.

I tried something different in the rover contraption,( mainly because the cheapness took hold) instead of the 100 dollar toyota engine mounts, I used 12 dollar mopar ones and made bracketry to fit them.

I was a bit concerned how they'd hold up, but I guess they're still ok.

but you hopefully got a bunch of extra stuff with that 3b

You've got nine days... That's at least 100 hrs of working time.:hhmm:

The engine swap is only a couple of engine mounts, a crossmember, some plumbing and a couple of wires... How long could it take?:hillbilly:

You could always not worry about a front driveshaft until you have time to complete the engine swap.

well, basically, when you go soa, both shafts want to be longer.

when you go h55(with no soa, just for argument), the rear shaft wants to be shorter and the front longer, by about 3 inches each, because of that spacer for the 5th gear.

So, if you stick everything where it would be stock, the rear shaft is going to be close to the right length, close enough that if you have some adjustment with your spring perches,(pushing axle back an inch or so) you might be able to make it work.

On my 45 the stock shaft was about 1/2 too long, when it was soa with the 5 speed but that thing was like an elephant dick down there, so it may not work out with your puny little shaft...

The flanges on h55's are often round, so easy to redrill for your older driveshafts.

kinda sol on the front, it needs to be longer either way unless you move the engine way forward, but not a huge benefit to that if all you're trying to avoid is messing with dshafts ( unless you're thinking of adding a doubler some day in the future)

Personally, I wouldn't worry a ton about shafts at the beginning, put things where they want to go, and then see what you end up with.

Depending on your rear springs, where you decide to put your rear axle ( looks and works better if you move it back a bit, stock location looks weird soa) there's a s***load of factors to mess with length, and really, it's not too hard to shorten a shaft yourself, I did with a coathanger as I didn't have a dial indicator. ended up smooth as a gravy sammich.

any of that make sense?

Wonder how those frame repairs look, cuz that thing has been for sale a loooong time.

and yeah, two cruisers is one too many for me, damn things do take up a bit of your time...

Tried it a couple times, always got sick of it pretty quick.

Sometimes its nice to have some sort of life outside of greasy rusty trucks.
