Subscribed, great idea, fantastic area. Spent three days in the San Juans when my '81 Toyota 4x4 pickup was new and haven't been since. Ran the Denver - CruiserFest last year and had a great time, amazing scenery. Likely I can find some special brew with the piles of micro brewery's in the Portland area.

Right on! Seems like @Mr Cimarron 's beer idea is a hit, bring a good one! And I wasn't even a thought in '81 so I can't tell you if it has changed out there, but I can say that it is now my favorite place to bring the cruiser after only being once!

Just saw this, great idea McGuire! I'm in, I need some kind of deadline to get my 60 running and this sounds perfect.

Thank you! Can't take all the credit, but I agree I think it will be a good time. Looking foreword to meeting you and checking out the 60!

watching....thread. Cool Idea.

Great idea on the solid axle summit. I've been to FJ Summits #6, 8 and 9. Drove my 40 to #8 and had a blast. It's amazing how many Toyota people don't get the heritage of the old rigs. One guy in our trail group asked over the cb why they let a Yeep on the summit. I kindly educated him and pointed at the bezel similarities. He had no idea.
All and all a great group of folks with a large portion of them being Internet wheelers with deep pockets, this is what drives the sport I suppose.
I agree that there needs to be a loosely organized toyota meet in the area. Hell I'd do the 1200 mile round trip again in either my 40 or 60. Awesome place to get lost.

Looks like I will be in as well. :)

Right on guys! I had a feeling this idea would be approved by the masses.

Potato launcher, I know it's a bit of a drive for you, but me and a few of my buddies that go to TT and have older cruisers are pondering making a tlca club for the greater panhandle. There are 5 of us total here in Lubbock, and a lot of old 40s sitting in driveways that we haven't gotten to yet.

For the masses:

I have been thinking about the date a little bit more and I have narrowed it down too two weekends that I think will work the best with school starting back up. I also do not think we need to plan around the existing events. Its all open game out there, and we do not need to limit ourselves to having the main camp in Ouray incase the fjsummit is going on.

Option 1: August 3-7. Show up on Thursday the 3rd, wheel Fri,Sat & Sun and depart on Monday.

Option 2: August 10-14. Same as above but a week later.

Option 2 is right smack in the middle of August which was what I was thinking originally, and this is the date I would prefer.

I am going to try and figure out how to start a poll for this thread that way everyone can select option 1 or 2 and we will just go with whichever one is more popular.

Another thing, I just assumed 5 days total for the event, 100% flexible though and can be made longer if deemed necessary. I will probably be out there a week minimum to enjoy all of the trails thoroughly.

Also, T-shirts. Who has the know how to take care of that? I'd be down to pitch in $20-$40 for a cool t-shirt and a sticker. I think that is kind of a staple when going to events.

Option 1 or 2 works for me! Classes dont start until aug 21 so I'm in for anything before that. What a great way to end the summer this will be!

Could you add an "Either of the dates work" to the poll so that people like me dont sway it one way or the other? Thanks

My thoughts exactly! Start off the semester on a good note. And fixed, thanks for the suggestion

Hey.. if Oregonian's are welcome.. two 80's would come from there. If so.. count on us showing up! I don't need any excuse to travel and hangout. However an excuse makes it even MORE worthwhile!

Just a friendly reminder, once the dates are set start looking for lodging. Camping, hotels, B&Bs will fill up fast if this takes off.
The last few group type meets tend to grab lodging fast. My personal favorite place is the 4J Campground in Ouray. I can vouch for its convenient location and reasonable rates. I'm sure @woody would agree with me on this.
However wilderness camping as a group would be cool if the amphitheater or someplace similar would be adequate .

Any date will work for me...

LCPC is happy to provide some gifts for everyone too.

:)

Solid axle or nothing. ;)

You da man. Last sentence is the reasoning behind the creation of this event ;)

Of course! Bring a friend, make it 3!

I will be keeping my eyes out for this event. Sounds like a great idea.

Awesome. I gotta work on my Sienna. Not kidding, I really have one! And I have a spare 60 front axle, hmmmm.....
I'll come over and help!
