who's down for a SAS5 Rubicon afterparty. It was only about a 12 hour drive from Ouray (not including a two hour nap at the Utah border, and stopping at Cruiser Outfitters as well as re-sealing my rear diff at a Wendy's parking lot)

Idk, my butt isn't that trained.....

The drive across Nevada was the worst drive I have ever done. Horrible. But I'd do it again

@ajax1 has been wanting to do this in the past.
Bringing an extra truck full of parts next year Matt?
e trying is not the easiest trail there that would be cactus. Die trying is no joke.
China men’s is not bad can be as hard as you want most things have by passes
You better have a seriously built truck if you are gonna try carnage, full body cruiser prob won’t have back glass if you make it the whole mile of the trail

is that a challenge?!

looks like fun. This exit section is no joke for a regular street truck

I think it has gotten a bit better since that video was taking, but I'm not sure.

This dude did it in a pretty stock Willys, with body damage.

stock other then the lockers, power steering and what looks like 80:1 low range lol
That is a great youtube channel. looks like a bunch of good wheeling videos without any of the annoying music/commentating

I mean "stock" as in not larger tires and massive lift. I think ps and lockers are kind of a requirement for stuff like that. But isn't a fully built heep mall crawler going at it and falling, either.

The driver of the XJ did I a great job...the passenger did not seem very relaxed tho.🙈

Think I would feel the same. I'm comfortable driving, but as a passenger, I get pretty tense, as I have no control and am just along for the ride.

Granted, that only started happening after I got into an accident when I was sleeping, and someone else was driving, so I may be biased. I can't sleep in cars anymore which really sucks for long drives.

would anyone that normally is in the big convoy from Casey's be interested in a run up the Blanca Peak trail? It's just outside Alamosa. I did it solo in August before SAS and it took me about 4 hours to get to Lake Como and about and hour and a half to get back down. Lake Como would make an incredible camp site. I didn't make it all the way to the very top, lake Blanca but i would like to try.

It's difficult compared to the trails in Ouray but nothing like the videos we've been posting on the last page. However there are several very steep dropoffs and cliffs that can be scary, and one or two obstacles that are alongside said dropoffs.
I would not recommend driving this trail if you do are not experienced wheeling. There are no turnarounds or bypasses.
With that being said anyone could leave their rig at the base and hike/ride along with their gear assuming there's room.

I'm thinking if the convoy leaves from Amarillo early in the morning to get to the trailhead at around noon (it is about a 5-6 hour drive, just get off at 160 instead of going all the way to Salida), that should be enough time to make it to the top with time to set up camp. Camp that night, head down in the morning. Head west towards South Fork and take Engineer Pass as a shortcut over the mountain to Ouray. I would expect that to take a whole day.

Thoughts? I would probably want to cap the # of rigs doing the Blanca Peak trail to about 4-5 max for safety and less chance of issues.

I wish it was on my way. Sounds like it would be a fun trip.
