OKAY everyone... update time. The sale is being put on hold (kind of)
Here's the good news: The manual gear shifter feels brand new. Smoothest I've driven. Also - all exterior body panels are solid - and yes, the paint really is that shiny.
I've been going through the truck carefully inspecting everything so that the truck truly is as stated, and found a stretch of rust along the drivers door which will need to be cut out. It is about 6 inches long and an inch and a half wide. I chipped away the sound deadening material, and luckily that stopped the rust. Only the floor panel is affected, and the exterior panel connected to it is unaffected. There are a couple small pin hole sized rust bubbles along the passenger door that could either be wire brushed away, or cut out. My best guess is that this is from a leaky rain gutter. After finding this, I removed all of the seats, carpet, and side panels.
Tonight, the truck (Brinkley) is going to a mechanic / body work specialist (a friend of a friend) tonight that used to maintain and do the body work on a fleet of high end classic cars (nothing under $100K many were many times that in value) - and now has his own mechanic and body business. He is a master mechanic, and does flawless work both mechanically and body work - and he knows Toyotas.
I am having him clean everything out (inside and out and underneath, fully inspect the body and frame, quote what the repair is going to be, and most likely get right to work! He is also going to do a full mechanical inspection. He is meticulous.
HOWEVER - I do need downpayment money for a house, quick. SO -if you are handy with this type of work, this could be a great opportunity for you to save quite a bit of money, and pick up this stunning truck at a great value, and give you a fun little project. ALL of the work that needs to be done will be covered by carpet - so there's no need to make everything flawless, if you wish.
Everyone on this thread has seen plenty of pictures of the outside and underside... so if you are interested in purchasing AS IS, PM me or reply to this and I can text you pictures of what we're dealing with, and we can negotiate based on what you know needs to be done.

Actually, better than I was expecting.
First thing - he was pretty impressed how nice and solid everything was. Also, the damage was fairly limited - but once everything is cleaned and documented I’ll let potential buyers decide on that. We went through everything and made our plan. First step is clean EVERYTHING, including underneath. Then I’ll go back out to document every nook and cranny to show the lack of rust, and also to show where the rust is. I did a fairly good job getting the seats, carpet, and padding out and we could not find any hint of a problem anywhere else. Drivers side will have several inches cut out (the rust was stopped by the sound deadening material) and passenger side will likely be ground, treated, and possibly a small quarter size piece taken out and replaced. We were able to confirm that no exterior body panel is affected in any way. The likely culprit - roof gutters need to be re-sealed.
I found a couple donor options for the several inches of pan that were affected. But it might be better to just fabricate.
I’ll have a quote in a couple days. If anyone wants this as their own project, PM and and we can chat.
Also, the guy doing all of the work did much of the work on these cars (back when it was 3 guys with a private collection of a hundred or so cars - now it is just Scott Gauthier who took some of his cars and is housing them in an event venue he owns Photos ...
He loves building trucks though - and is a huge fan of Toyotas and TLC's. She's in good hands. OH - and I think I'm going to have that dent taken out - he has a guy coming out to see what can be done without doing any cutting or anything invasive.

Okay everyone. It looks like a deal is going down 10am tomorrow morning. Selling the truck AS IS. My body guy / mechanic quoted me 600-800 to fix the rust on the floor pan. That would be fabricating the sheet metal, welding, grinding, painting, and re coating. He also pointed out the clutch will need addressing in a year or two. The prospective buyers body guy quoted him $1,800 to get a rust free pan and weld that in place.

Bought a tuffy locking center console. I think it’s the 10.5 inch wide.... need to double check. You have to do a bit of fabrication (drilling a couple holes in metal) to make it work in the 60, as it’s designed to fit and bolt right into jeeps.
Hardest part is just getting the bolts in place as it’s a tight fit - and it’s a popular mod in the 60’s, so there are plenty of write ups and even templates on the forum to help you through it

SOLD. At least she won’t be lonely. The buyer will restore to perfect condition. The 87 FJ 60 was the only year he didn’t own, and Freeborn Red was the only color he lacked.
