Hi Everyone.
I’m new to group. Thanks for the ad. I just purchased a 1976 FJ40 that already had a bunch of work done to it but is incomplete. My biggest concern is the SOA. No front driveshaft. I’m wondering if the angle on the front axle had been set up correctly. It has 35s on it which I like. Take a look at the photo. It seems to me that the axle needs to rotate to have the tires more horizontally. I don’t want to modify or cut the axle. Shackles to the rear? Any help is greatly appreciated

Judging by your photo, you have a lot of negative caster going on there, to the point of it not being safe at any speed. A shackle reverse will not help fix the issue, shims might relieve the negative caster issue but the u-joint angles would become an issue. In my opinion, to properly fix what is going on would be to do a cut and turn or go back to spring under set up.

Where are you located? Hopefully someone on here is close to you and can get eyes on your set up and help you out.

X2 hopefully someone close could look at it and give some feedback
if not many more pics needed,
the long shackles aren't a great idea and they have been overtightened

You will definitely need a C&T front axle in order to correct that caster, if keeping that SOA.
If you don’t want to deal with this job, Kurt Williams (cruiserteq) used to offer this services decades ago, Not sure if they still do …..

Search here or on the internet, cut and turn or c&t. You need to rotate the axle at the spring perches to get proper driveshaft angle, and do a cut and turn at the knuckles where the balls meet the axle tube to get the proper caster angle. Negative caster will make the 40 un-driveable.

Thank you guys for the help. I suspected that this would be complex. I'm in Walnut Creek, Ca. Maybe someone that knows what they're doing is near by? Obviously I am new to this. They put a 4BT Cummins in it which also sits at a slight angle. Need to correct that too.

The engine need to be in on a slight slant when using a toyota tranny/transfer.

You need to do a lot of reading here before you "fix" anything. There is a diesel section around here somewhere. Build threads can be nice as you can follow frame up assembly
