So, I'm in need of a muffler....what are my options?

I did my install this weekend. I ordered all of the gaskets that were shown in the Bosal diagram, Kinda overkill. The Magnaflow cat comes with 2 gaskets and the Magnaflow y pipe comes with the two manifold to y pipe gaskets and an 02 sensor gasket. So, I only ended up using the muffler to tailpipe Bosal gasket. Now I have spares. I had to go locally for another 02 sensor gasket. No big deal. Everything fit exactly and I didnt have any of the issues with the rubber hangars like others have had. I'll be trimming up the tailpipe though.

I recently replaced my whole system.
I went with OEM headers and Magnaflow down pipes and converters (23120 and 23622) and OEM muffler and tailpipe.

Snake eater, how is your exhaust system working out. It has been some time sense your last post.

Good to know.

I always steer toward OEM parts as Snake eater usually does, but they are quite expensive. In the case of the exhaust system, there was a "company" building systems for 80s that was in consideration at the time.
They no longer exist. The non OEM parts don't usually last or don't fit well causing more problems down the road. I've had my current 80 for 10 years now.

How is that working for you? About 12 months ago I did the Magnaflow down pipes and converters. Now I need to do the back end. I'm a fan of the whistle so I'm leaning towards the OEM. Are you happy with your setup?

Can some one do me a favor and upload a picture of their stock exhaust setup with hangers? I am trying to get a picture of what the stock brackets look like and I'm starting to think mine were removed at some time. Thanks.

You can find them in parts diagrams online. Available from Mr. T brand new.

So here we are again.....

Yet another Bosal muffler install :meh:

I think I'm on my 3rd one :hmm:

This one started leaking at the O2 sensor bung and the pipe around it just fell apart

My Y-pipe is in good shape, but after looking at the second cat (which was gutted a long time ago), I knew I'd have trouble getting the muffler separated, so I just ordered a new one...

New cat seems to be much better quality than the last one and the new muffler pipe has a longer bend with more frame clearance.

It also came with aluminum O-ring style crush gaskets that seem to fit and seal better than the OEM gaskets

Best of all, the mounting brackets were all right places and didn't need any modification

I did hack off the rear output pipe and made a turn down out of it using an adapter sleeve and clamps

Only issue I have now is that the upstream O2 needs to be replaced, but the nuts are in horrible shape just like the downstream was (and I had to cut those off)

Not sure if it's even worth attempting cause I know I'll end up damaging the studs
