Hi,

I will be getting in on the late sde Friday night. I cant leave SF until after work. Is this like any other campground....just go back in the morning to pay the fee? or is there a self-registration process like the Wilderness pass you see at some places?

This is going to be good! I just convinced a friend to buy his first Landcruiser about 2 weeks ago. He picked up a great 80 series. He was a dye hard Heep fan for years..... Nice to bring some one over to the Dark side!!!! LOL!

Thanks guys!

The admission kiosk stays open until about 11pm most of the time, if it's quiet or not busy they shutdown sooner. And yes you can come back in the morning and pay.
I recommend getting a pass online, you just print out the receipt and place it in your window. Why risk getting fined?

Yeah.... I'll do it on line. I dont know what I am thinking..... actually, I am just not thinking it through too clearly...... It's friday, I am at work.... and my mind is busy with my hundy build and trail riding.... LOL!

Thanks!

I have another question.... seeing this is my first time to SNT and to the Dunes..... What is the restroom deal for the event? I see there are no official restrooms.... are the port-a-johns? or is this a bring your own P.E.T.T sytem type of deal? Need to make sure I am prepared.... Again.. Thanks!

There are multiple 2 toilet concrete structures about a 1/4 mile off the beach and a few back in the dunes complex itself. These are primitive facilites, ie: no water or electricity so bring your handi-wipes and a flashlight at night! Surf N Turf Camp(Pole 6) will have 1 to the north and 1 to the south. You can easily walk to either or drive your cruiser if you prefer!

Driving down from Placerville to Pleasanton, picking up the sister and her bullie and heading down. Knowing my sister we probably will be heading out of that area around that time.
Peace. Stooked

Hey I might be riding with a really full rig possibly 4 adults and 2 american bulldogs. Some seriously saggy draggy springs! Maybe I can swap out some of my passengers to your rig. HAHA I will give your peeps instead of slobbery dogs.
Peace:flipoff2:

Cruisin' Bulldogs

Bullie as in Bullmastiff? If so I will have to bring mine down too. He's about 12 months now.

Bullie as in American Bulldog. Bringing Rylee (right) and Bandit (left) (first Pic) and meeting up with Daisy (second pic). Starting to think that I need to bring some fencing to make a doggy surf area!!! Bring your pup, all bullies rock!!!

Just an FYI regarding man's best friend...

Surf N Turf and the Oceano Dunes Off Highway Vehicle Area is
NOT DOG FRIENDLY.

And I'm not talking about the fact that there is nothing to lift a leg on except tents and tires.

FIRST, the primary threat to driving vehicles on the beach and dunes stems from impacts to endangered shore birds. A large portion of the beach is completely closed from March to September (including the Surf N Turf camp area and everything south of Pole 6.) It is closed to everything and everyone, including walking. All this to protect shore birds. Dogs are considered a major threat to the birds and beaches are permanently CLOSED because of it. Currently, dogs are allowed and legal at Oceano Dunes but they

MUST BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES!!!

This is strictly enforced by the rangers, OHV volunteers, State Parks wildlife staff and by ME. All of us want the beach to stay OPEN. I do not enjoy telling you to leash your dog. But I will tell you and I don't care to hear an excuse or to tell you a second time. The Anti-Off-road Recreation people are watching and taking pictures. They love to argue that the Off-road people do not follow the rules, the rangers don't enforce the rules, and leash laws are ineffective therefore the ONLY way to protect the endangered species is to CLOSE the beach.

SECOND, this is a wide open area with off-highway vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles, buggies, not to mention 400+ Land Cruisers. There are no "trails". Vehicles are going every which way in a random and unpredictable manner. This is a vehicle recreation area. This is a very dangerous place for an unleashed dog and dogs present a safety hazard for riders.

An unleashed dog chasing ATVs or birds is not cool.

The foremost key to the success of our "little informal" event is following the State Park rules. I can't overstate the power and importance of the "Land Cruiser People" setting a good example.

Please follow these few common sense rules and please help me spread the word to our friends if you see someone doing something stupid. I hereby deputize all of you!

We are doing a GREAT job and it is working!

I sincerely appreciate the Surf N Turf "veterans" actively spreading the word to the newbies.

Thank you!

The simple rules to remember are:
  • 15 mph on the beach
  • Don't Drink and Drive
  • Dogs on Leash
  • Have FUN and be safe!

I've been coming to this event for the past 8 years so i'll help you pass the word Jim,

I've brought a dog to SnT twice and I will say what Jim is being too nice to say."don't bring your dog". The beach is too chaotic and you can't tell a dog to stay within the center camp area.

I had a tough time constantly keeping an eye on the dog, and it spent far too much time leashed to me or tied to the bumper. You have to spend so much time looking after the dog, you don't have as much fun at the event.

It's too bad, because it would otherwise be an awesome place with the dog, but you can't safely let it run free, and the sensitivity around chasing the shore birds is real. Guess what my springer did the second we arrived at the camp--jumped out the window to chase a giant flock of gulls half way back to town.

Thanks for the advice. I agree with laws there is a reason why we have them. But kids are allowed without leashes, not saying that a kid isn't going to run after a bird. But we make things kid or dog or family or whatever friendly. I have no problem with leashes and those that do are completely disrespectful of the land and in this case OHV. But I have meet some stupid people that still litter on the Rubicon, go off trail into restricted area, bring guns into the wilderness, leave broken tackle on shores, umm think this list could go on for awhile.
The point is by having people at SnT that represent respectful, conscientious, law abiding OHV recreatoners, that are represented by the best group of people the toyota heads well then I think you do more good than harm.
Just so you know I plan on bringing extra bags and a bucket for s*** retrieval human and pooch. If you need some come see me I will bring extra and a POO can.
I also have no problem leashing my dog at all times even when she is swimming or playing ball. I love my dog and don't want someone to run her over or for her to get hurt in anyway. Her safety comes first.
Thanks I will pass on the word. Thank you for the deputization you can count me in for DOGGY SAFETY officer.

So excited.

I really wish I was going but I am new to the LC scene and had just bought mine (93 LC, OME, ARB bumbers, 12000 winch) not quite a month ago. I have a lot I am in the process of doing to it (aux tank w/overhead console install, CDL pin 7 mod, MT sliders to replace the non functional ones on it, water bottle relocation, wire up the Hella 500's, 2 din GPS install and fixing a lot of leaks). I had not even heard of SnT until last week so I am totally unprepaired. I am hoping I can attend next year and am starting to plan already.

Wish I was there this year... :crybaby:

Play safe!!

I have been to SnT since 2003 (missed the first one, oh drat) and I bought my mixed Husky/shepard dog at first.

Unlike other offroad, camping and even short beach trips, I found SnT the opposite experience, a rather anti-climatic for my dog, no matter how hard I tried to setup for my dog. My dog ended up staying under the rental trailer, protecting himself from the wind with blowing sand and the intense sun.

Now I have two new dogs and I am not bringing them with me this year.

Cheers,

Did anyone see what a nice bullie dog did to a 17 month old boy in Delhi,Ca. I would hate to this see this happen to young kid at Pismo even if the is dog leashed .Bullie dogs and kids don't mix and people bring their kids.Lets not have Pismo closed because of one person.

What a completely off topic and ignorant comment. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Bullies (NOT PIT BULLS) are actually incredible family and kid dogs. We are talking about bulldogs, american bulldogs, and bullmastiffs. NOT PIT BULLS. Bullmastiffs specifically were bred NOT TO BITE as a character. ANY dog can be dangerous around kids. It's the responsibility of both the owner of the dogs and the kids to keep them safe from eachother.

Lets get back on topic. Yes Jim is right. Dogs are not necessarily the best mix for that part of the beach. I was only thinking about possibly bringing Gus down for a bit because I live a few miles away and go back and forth during the day. I would not camp with him there. I could bring him and run him home later...probably just leave him.
