“One question that I have that might already be answered here on the thread is that if I want to go to an 80 series steering box and I have an 84 what is the typical protocol? I assuming drilling and sleeving the frame, but is there a thread on this somewhere?”

I’ve asked the same question before .. there no thread that I’m aware of. But yes I’m told it doable by drilling and sleeving holes. Maybe add a plate on the inside?

If you attempt.. please post what you encounter and come up with!
I purchased a fj40 to fj80 kit from @cruisermatt that worked perfectly. If you look thru the pics you can see we cut out the whole section of the frame and welded the plates and sleeves in the. Worked great

Question is it normal for a fj60 to have this hole on the b pillar?

I am working on the exhaust manifold situation now. The stock LM7 manifolds do not play well with the frame and well sorted motor mounts. Since this car is CARB compliant I need to find some OE manifolds or some CARB/EO approved Manifolds. In the last week I became an expert on Stock GM Manifolds for all LS motors..LOL

LM7 truck manifolds don't play nice at all Driver side dumps right on top of the frame and pass side bangs into all the rear heater hose lines and brake lines. See pics below

05-06 GTO manifolds work of but not great they kind of turn into the frame where they dump and also bang into the OE motor mounts(can be fixed with grinding)

C5 Vette manifolds seem to be perfect (vette gets em wet!)

I am confident that I have the right manifolds to make this all work. I am torn on using the OE engine mounts just for the fact that they live really close to the manifolds and I had to give them some love with a grinder so all could fit. I might just by some poly bushing ones from summit to see if I like the packaging better, but not sure...
Hopefully this weekend I can get tranny(Tremec tr4050), AA bellhousing and transfer case(hf2a) all mated to engine then slot it into truck and start working on crossmember.

Not much progress over here other than spending money on parts for down the road.
Cleaned up the engine a bit and bought all new sensors. It's a jasper rebuild and they paint the living sh!t out of everything with not much regard for mating surfaces.

Got pilot bearing and adaptor together then installed on crank. Need to now get flywheel on so I can do a run out test on bell housing(in order to get a warranty from tremec if ever needed, they need photo proof of this.

Also had to order some replacement bolts that axis wrongly provided in their adaptor kit for the transfer case. The thread pitch they provided was 12x1.75 and the transfer case threads are 12x1.25.

Also bought a beautiful set of fj62 doors, I want electric windows and locks. I will have to do the mods to make them work better.

Also was able to take the kiddos camping in Santa Cruz. Was cold as balls in the mornings, Cali cold that is 36 degrees. Lol

Either way hoping thru the holidays I can crush and get this project moving forward.

SO finally getting off my ass to update this thread. I purchased an all new sensors and pieces to get the engine as fresh as possible. Installed the flywheel, crank pulley, valley cover and valve covers. I also did a runout test on the bell housing to engine which should I needed offset dowels I purchased the offset dowels and put them in but not sure if I did it right and will need to revisit this on final assembly. I then sandwiched everything together so I can start working on the transmission crossmember and what will need to be done tranny tunnel for it all to fit. It sure feels like a big mamba Jamba when all together..

I'm actually way past this point so will try and get thread caught up over the course of the day.

After getting the engine and tranny/transfer case in the truck I worked on massaging and cutting the tunnel for space. This took a fair bit more work than I thought it would be(kind of like having kids). I don't know for sure, but I think I clearanced it enough for everything to fit and have enough room for drivetrain movement. Fingers crossed I have the right angles on my outputs, time will tell.....

Next was getting some more interior out of the way to have ample room to work on closing the tunnel back up. Found about .75 cents which should pay for most of the project...

Borrowed neighbors tig welder and was able to close up floor, once again really hoping it all works out but worst case scenario I need to cut and patch some more. Also made the crossmember, at a later point would like to make a skid plate that mounts off of crossmember and attached to frame. Won't do that until I know all my s*** is back together and running as intended.

Started on removing most of the interior. Removed fuel tank and some of the hard lines.

Pretty stoked truck came with a long range America tank. I know @dbbowen has recommended external but I have had nothing but problems with external. The LRA tank is not made for internal pump but obviously could be modified.
Just not sure what the right move is here, I guess I will figure it out once it comes time to reassembling everything.

At this point getting everything ready so body can be pulled from frame and get the full rotisserie paint job
