It seems to me that you would want sliders to sit horizontal vs. at an angle. Obviously there must be some advantage to the angled type because it's an option that people choose. I could see how the horizontal type stick out more which might keep you from getting past an obstacle. Are there any other reasons the angled ones are better?

Angled sliders look better...

Thanks guys. So it's unanimous then, angled is the way to go. I'm trying to make my own and wondered if it was worth angling them up. I will keep in mind that my doors still need to open.

How far do they stick out? About 5-6 inches?

Flat sliders, on the other hand, provide a better step. Since they stick out farther, they might also help prevent door dings. More food for thought to make your decision harder.

angled sliders also work better in funtionality when using the slider as a pivot point to move the entire arse end of the vehicle around a rock or obstacle.

I like the look of both, and a local guy is building me some, the flat ones, 4" wide which will make for decent steps, and they are nice and tucked near the top. I dont know, my cats and muffler are lower than the slider...

Although the ones I built and the onesI bought are angled, the flat ones (especially with a kickout) provide you the ability to use your sliders not only as protection, but as a tool offroad. You can purposely drive into a rock with them and pivot around them. I've seen this done quick a bit with minitrucks. See the 4xinnovations website.

My sliders are flat. Diamond plate on the top makes a very safe step for kids. I've used them as a pivot point many times and they protect the doors as well.
Build what you like, not what people tell you to build.
