Well… while you’re in there…..
I decided to paint the front floors since I’m doing the tunnel cover as well. This is a pretty quick n dirty respray but since I already had the epoxy primer and the paint mixed into rattle cans why not? Light sanding of the floors, a blow out and wipe down, then epoxy. This Capri Blue I had mixed into spray cans locally is a really good match. Just a shade darker probably but I’m really pleased.

DONE!

What's next? Drive the crap out of it I guess?! You got a couple weeks of good cruiser weather left if you're lucky?

I just saw this post. Yep, drive it. I’ll drive it year round except when it’s raining pretty bad, then I’ll take the 4Runner. Between the cruiser and my Chevelle, I almost never drive my “regular” car. I’ll take the cruiser out in light rain or get caught in the rain but no sense driving it if it’s just pouring.
I adjusted one of my linkages a little but went the wrong way; made it harder to get into 3/4. Just got done driving it so need to wait for it to cool before I adjust again.

Next up is make my factory bumper into an 8274 winch bumper, swing out tire carrier and fix this super annoying squeal from the Sniper inlet line but I can’t figure out what’s causing it.

Over the last couple of weeks as I had time I’ve been making a tire and cooler carrier. Finished it up last night.

I also changed the aluminum feed line to the sniper for a soft line to see if that squeal will go away. So far, no squeal. If this holds true after a couple weeks, I think I’ve got a plan. I’ll use a 45 fitting right at the sniper. Wondering if I just have a couple bends that are a little too tight and causing a velocity problem and harmonics. Just a guess at this point. I’m no fluid dynamics engineer.

Tucked in with the rest of the soccer mom cars.

Rebadged the cooler today.

Was running a bunch of errands today with my 3 year old, dozen or so in and outs of the back hatch and the handle broke on the lock side so it was just flopping around. Had to crawl through and open the hatch from the inside to get her out. After we got home I opened it up and can see that where the lock tab engages the handle to keep it from opening, it snapped right there. Also, the nut and washer on the other side as well as the scissor spring are MIA. I’m sure that helped the fatigue. I tried welding it but my skills on cast aluminum with a likely high magnesium content leave a lot to be desired. Short version: looked good but I cycled the latch a couple hard times and it broke again. I can’t have that with the reality that a lot of my driving in this has 1 or both little girls in the back. An unopenable hatch just isn’t acceptable. Luckily, looks like cityracer carries the handle as well as Toyota so should be easy to replace.
I do t think she would’ve minded being trapped back there with that DQ though….

I am still blown away at how much stuff I can order from Toyota and it’s at my dealer in 2 days.

Like a brand new lift gate latch.

I also shortened a ratchet strap for the cooler and put a cable lock on so the SKRETI doesn’t walk off, they’re valuable. The cable lock was listed as a fridge lock to help stop binge eating fatties. Maybe I should put it on the fridge….

Then, I installed a new voltage regulator. This came with a cheapo unit that even now is like $19 but it never holds a steady voltage and I’m sick of looking at the yellow 11.9 v on the sniper display. I upgraded to a $45 Napa Echlin unit. I know it’s not factory but sometimes (usually) I’m cheap. Nice and steady at 13.9-14 v.

As I said, just amazed at what you can still get from Toyota and how inexpensive some of these parts are.

Well I was going to hold this project in until it was done but no one else in my life cares and I want to share it somewhere so…

I’ve had this 67 bib for 5 years or more with the intent to paint it and make wall art. I had paint in rattle cans left over from doing my trans hump and the other day driving to work, I decided that it’s finally time to order the Toyota koito light upgrade. So, I stripped the bib I had and sent it to the sandblaster, ordered the new headlight kit for the 1970, then I’ll stuff those stock lights into this art bib. Found Toyota still carried the running lights (at $12 a piece!!!!) and I’m just about ready. Need to get the lights so I can hook up the wiring but it’s close.

Looks good. Garage worthy art de‘jute…😎
My wife says “that’s not going in the house”.
My kids say “can it go in our bedroom for a night light?!”.
I said “it’s going in my bedroom as a night light…..”
It’s in the shop for now….

Added a cooler sticker. My mom promptly asked “what’s the significance of the funny looking cassette tape?”….

Picked up an 8274 winch on Saturday, then carved some pumpkins. Tore it down, sandblasted the cases, added oil fill and drain holes, then painted. I keep forgetting to take pics of stuff but here’s 1 in the back of the car right when buying it and the top case. Lower case and side support were painted bright aluminum but the paint was right over dirt and grease. It came with a new rebuild kit but missing the control and I ordered new brake support bearing as it was pretty gritty.

Oof. Empty fireball bottle. Been there pumpkin friend.

I wanted an older, used and worn but working condition winch to go with the same look of the cruiser but this one is quickly becoming nicer that what it will go on. I should probably button up the rebuild and give it to someone else and start looking again for a more used one that fits the look better.

That was humor. But it is going to look better than it should for this ol hag.
Waiting on parts. I went back and forth to buy a new sticker or not but kept the old one. Let this dirty winch remember where it came from…. The paint is cast aluminum engine enamel. And cast iron engine enamel on the brake parts.
