It was a hot one for us western WA peeps today, that's for sure.
I have to get the new trans tunnel cover finished (from the 4 on the tree conversion) because all that hit engine bay air comes right up my leg. It was hot to begin with, then add that in.

Finally installed my dash cap since I could get the dash off with the windshield down. Here’s how it looked.

I had to reglue the ends where the foam and metal came unbonded.

Then I could adhere the dash cap to the dash. Lots of clamping and clothespins. I Put adhesive more than just around the edge like it said.

Then the final product. Has a couple little waves where the big splits were but I don’t think most would even notice. Very pleased with it for the cost and instant impact.

I bought this 1970 FJ40 out of Colorado last week and it finally showed up today! I was unable to see it in person, first time I’ve ever bought something unseen and luckily, it arrived exactly as I was expecting. I probably overpaid, especially after shipping, but I’m ok with it on this one.
It’s supposed to be all original, with the exception of the wheels, some added wiring and the rear bumper, which is the exact same bumper my 71 I just sold had when I bought it. I got it running but needs some attention: carb rebuild and valve adjust for sure. Has disc brakes on front and a box of parts to do a rear disc setup, but not sure if I’ll swap rears or not. Little rust in rear sill but not bad, driver floor has surface rust but no holes or flakes, front was smashed on something so there’s quite a bit of bondo in the hood corner and obviously at least a partial repaint.
The plan for this one is to clean it up and drive the wheels off it! Keep the paint as is but buff it up, stop any existing rust, get stock wheels and a 2.5” lift with some 33’s. Eventually I want to add AC and a Sniper, but not quite yet. Just a good, original looking “survivor” that’s suited to take the dog on hikes, take up in the mountains, drive the kids to school, whatever. Not be worried about little dings and scratches, just enjoy it.

Love it. Did the same thing - 1970 from Golden.

Pull the trigger!

sorry for the hi-jack Skreddy.
Any time I can be a part of spending someone else’s money on a project I’m all for it, even if my only involvement was a thread.

I figured it’s about time I get the seatbelts back in this thing. They are dirty! So a good bath is needed. The buckles are nicely worn and I will be leaving them as is. The chrome is still great and not rusty or pitted. I didn’t take any pre-pics assembled. Here’s pre-bath.

Gave them a good pre-rinse. These things were nasty! Eventually I need a sink with hot water in my shop for these chores, but the kids bathroom works fine for now. So, pre-rinse, then into a tub with some oxy-clean and dawn dish soap. Right next to the Elsa bubble bath is a good resting spot for a few hours. I pilfered a wooden spoon from the kitchen for stirring/agitation. More to come later.

Cap looks good.
I did the cheap with a piece of vinyl left over from another project.
Couldn't get that smooth end like yours so tacked a straps over the seams.
Been holding up for over ten years now.

No, this isn’t a cave latrine from Afghanistan. This is the first soaking of the seat belts.

4 wash and rinse cycles in my mixture and I can work with this. Now to reassemble.

And done. Took it for a drive. You know, test operation.

Looks great!

Makes me want to grab the old belts I have sitting in the garage and toss them in a tub with the special sauce. I'm impressed with your motivation, sometimes it's hard for me to figure out where to start on the to do list of my personal projects.
It’s like eating an elephant. Start with the easiest part, 1 bite at a time and beer helps.

I’ve been dealing with an annoying high pitched squeal since I installed the Sniper. I know it’s related to my aluminum fuel lines and the aluminum dual line separators I used because if I remove all the separators the squeal goes away. I have hard tube from by the fuel pump block off plate to sniper. It is this hard line along the engine to sniper that squeals. So I got some really cheap spark plug wire separators to try. Took out all the aluminum separators and put in 4 of the plug wire separators and so far no squeal! I don’t think these will hold up long term but it’s a step in the right direction.

Drove the 40 about 100 mile round trip today, 15 freeway miles each way, to get some brass cased projectiles for my bear blaster since no one nearby has any. This trans tunnel needs built because it was hot on my leg! So here we go. Another couple hours and it should be closed in, then finish it all off and paint. I’ll post more details in the 4 on the tree thread.

First coat of filler slathered on after epoxy primer.

And my annoying squeal at the sniper hard lines is back. Need to look into that more once it’s running again.
