I have my cage 95% done and painted. Ran out of time to put the cross braces in from the top to the wheel arches. Will do them when I get back from my tassie trip. Came up really well very happy with it.

Good job man! I like every thing except for the fence. But hey it aint mine! Enjoy! That sucks about the body damage.

The reason for the mesh is to tie stuff off too and to stop the occupants being impaled my objects in the event of sudden braking/crash/roll over.

Cicak,

I've got a small Engle fridge, drinks are covered!

I dont really feel that gussets are required especially once the final tubes go in, everything was properly notched for close fitment before welding and I'm happy with it. Any failure would probably be away from the welded joints.

Yup been there with a rollover the MILFORD saved everything from flying around and not even a broken window. apart from teh idiots who decided they were too tough to wear seatbelts - yeah they got hurt.
I am also going to perspex the CAGE so i can separate the heat from the rear and the front to make the front easier to cool.

Good job. Cage is great to hand Snatch Straps and tree straps etc from and the camera bag.

Well got the call today, my new (rebuilt) gearbox is ready! Its a BJ42 H55F with a HJ61 auto transfer case on it converted to manual shirt with FJ60 bits in there. Its a mix and match but should be awesome, going from the stock 1.9 ratio low range to 2.3 ratio low range.

I have also got a 4 Terrain clutch to go in a the same time.

Cool. I love how parts can be interchanged between so many different models.

Well got my new gearbox in with clutch and lower gears. When we went to have the clutch machined every blood shop was closed! I had to do it by hand with a grinding stone, nearly 2 hours I spent on the thing!

The lower gears are awesome it is so much better to drive, with even low 3rd pretty useable on most terrain.

Yesterday was the first day of our Tasmania 4x4 trip with a few mates, unfortunately last night while 140km/h at 18psi boost my mates Nissan patrol lunched a motor. Conveniently we have come across a fully machined unasembled motor. So today/tonight we are building a engine and swapping it in to get on with our trip!

Sounds like you are gonna have a great time down there. Dont forget the camera;)

It was a TD42. Not half an hour before the motor dying we left a blokes place who had a machined block and fresh head ready to go. Got the car back there at 11.30pm, 12.30pm had the head off to see the motor dead. 1.30pm today, old motor is ready to be lifted out, everything unbolted and off. New motor just got the timing case fitted, oil housing, fuel pump, head to go. Some pics

Hope to have the new motor in tonight, out driving tomorrow.

Here are some pics of a Warn 8274 with fibre rope, albright solenoid and 6hp motor fitted. It is a VERY tight fit but everything clears and works well. Unfortunately the winch is only a loner, back to the low mount soon.

Nice truck and excellent work on the roll cage

Great looking BJ74.

Question for you, it looks like the BJ 74 had an ARB Commercial Bar on it when you got it and then you swapped on your ADR Delux bar, is that correct ?

Reason I ask is I am looking at getting an ARB Bullbar for my BJ and am trying to see exactly what the difference between the Delux and the Commercial is, any comments would be great as I am thinking you have seen both side by side.

Cheers,

I've had four different bullbars, here is a rundown.

-Alloy - s***, good for nothing more than a carpark, after some minor shurbery hits the mounts were ovalled out and later I broke one wing off it and cracked all the welds.

-Old style TJM deluxe winch bar - s***, a mates 80 series reversed into me and pushed it back into my bonnet at low speed, I also hit an embankment with the opposite wing and bent it back 2'', for a steel winch bar they are weak.

-Old style 1st gen ARB commercial bar, very similar to TJM bar above in style and construction, now no the Red Barron with sidebars, has been used for recoveries with no problems.

-3rd Gen ARB 70 series ARB deluxe bar, SIGNIFICANTLY better design and construction than all previously mentioned bars, it sits higher above the chassis rails giving a better approach angle and winch mounting. The bar also fits the car shape better. It is heavier than the other bars I have used but I want the extra beef. I have had no trouble winching, hitting trees, embankments etc with it, hasnt moved at all.

One if my mates has a 2nd Gen ARB 70 series bar which is similar to mine but the winch mounting is a little lower and the wings angle more to meet the guards, it is also a good bar to have.

Ok cheers looks like an ARB Delux bar will be the way to go, always good to get actual feedback from someone who has it there first hand.

Thanks
