Should There Be Separate 40 & 55 Forums?

Cruiser tech is a good gathering place that by default is the 25/40/45/55 section. All the tech forums have good info that cross pollinates. Leave it as it is!!!

my vote is keep it the way it is, i love my 40, but i like learning about both and if i could ever find a nice 55 i would love to pick it up for the family rig. dont know if the wife would agree. oh well.

actaully in a way they should be, at least as far as drivetrain, the88-90 fj62 and 91-2 fj80 share more then a 92 vrs 93+fzj80

As a 55 only owner, I would would appreciate not having to weed through the pile of 40 info to get to a nugget of pig lit. Either way, I still look here and appreciate the 40 info that does relate (which is a lot).

I guess if 55'ers wanna be alone there is always the birfield list, so maybe this forum is fine the way it is.

they are basically the same, minus longer rear springs, body, and steering column, and chassis dimensions, and a couple of interior parts.. but most of those parts function in the same way, and fail in the same areas.

even now, some of the 60 series guys bemone the split between 60 series and tech, a 60 has more in common with a 40 or 55 than between the 60 and 62. there are alot of guys on here that know their stuff on 2f's and cruiser gearbox;s, alot of these people own 40s, so you might loose alot of input on your tech questions if you moved them. for the 55 guys, i'm sure alot of your tech questions have been answered by 40 guys, so you may not necissarily get the same help you do now... just a point to consider...

if anything, we should seperate 3 speed cruisers and 4 speed cruisers, and separate out the 25 series too, they have a lot less in common... but i think it's a good melting pot.

as for "weeding through 40 stuff", sometimes that will be the stuff that saves you at a later date. it was a 60 series thread that pointed me in the right direction for a few 2f issues my 40 was having.

Pig Owner's Opinion

I say leave em' together, enough of the info relates to both models. Besides I have one of each anyway, so I can find all my needs on one list. I think the Birfield.com 55 list is sufficient for Piggy segregation. My opinion, for what it's worth. Hodag

I'm still waiting for the 25 section.
Fine the way it is. Not technical, but I've always thought of the 60 as the departure to a more "civilized" cruiser.

As an owner of 2 pigs, a 40 and a 60 and someone always willing to give my .02 even when it isn't wanted:

Keep the forum together but add a fj-55 specific FAQ to address 55 specific stuff like where to get door seals and rear spings..... OR add 55 to the title and a 55 section in the existing FAQ.

With two pigs do I get 2 votes?

Pig owners are always gonna read the 40 posts, because there are just more 40 guys working out mech problems that 55 owners can learn from.

And 40 owners are gonna read the 55 posts so they can be reminded how much luckier they have it getting body parts!
