Nice Texas Wheelchair :hillbilly:

Get an 96/97 80 series. And get an LX570. And round it out with an FJ62. Best 3 platforms in my personal opinion, all for different reasons.

[edit removing irrelevant info about self]

I have a few questions for you:
1. how old are you?
2. what do you actually want?
3. have you really experienced an 80 recently?

#1 we do not live forever, everybody young and old knows that, and like it or not, we do go through midlife crises when you actually realize we do not live forever - knowing is not enough. There are many much worse things that you can do during this crise than buying the wrong car. With buying the 2 cars, the worse might be that you have to sell them and get back into a 200. Nothing irreversible and no people are hurt.

#2 because of #1 you should find out what you *really* want. You know, sometimes getting the high school dreams come true 20 years later is not a good thing. That applies to sex symbols but also to cars. When I got my cruiser I went out shopping for a nice FJ Cruiser (yellow if possible) while in the back of my mind there was a Hi-Lux quad cab that I first saw in 1992 in Europe while in college. I found a gray FJ and test drove it and there were things that I liked but decided to pass. On the other hand, I did try to get what I wanted instead of keep dreaming, even if it didn't work out, and in the process, I found out that I want a 200 and then that I really like the LX. Yes, I did try the 4R, a few Tacos in the process.

#3 is actually a consequence of #2: make sure that you do not dream too much and get your ass into an 80 and see how it is, for you, now.

Good luck finding your best fit!

Get both

Should sell my 200 for a family members newer 2017 2500 Duramax 🤣. Mint and well maintained- always wanted a truck. No I don’t tow but my LX on 35s is already overkill for me and a truck bed would be handy

Hey guys, should I sell my 200 for a box of crayons and this half gallon of milk. It already expired, but the seller says its still good.
I tell my wife all the time...
The "best before" date doesn't automatically mean it's bad after that date.
So said by a man long past his "best before" date

I’ll up the ante and give you TWO boxes of crayons.

No.

If you need a diesel buy pre emissions. Or buy a 3/4 gas truck.

Diesel 80 for the win. Seriously, sold my 2002 HDJ100 and replaced with an 1996 HDJ81 DD, no regrets. Dad has a 2016 VDJ200 I have driven plenty, nice but not a fan.

I went the other way. I had a very well maintained 1996 80 with ~120k miles (triple locked, lifted, re-geared, etc...). ultimately decided to go to the 200. It felt more secure on the highway during long road trips. I live in Houston so drive to New Mexico and Colorado at least once a year. The KDSS and the ride is much better and gives a extra layer of security which for me is important with two little kiddos onboard.

Keep the 200 and buy the 80..
Do this ^^^ 100%. I would never swap my 200 for my old 80. And, I wouldn't care if it has factory lockers or not. I've run ARB's and would recommend those over the factory lockers. Buy one with open diffs and just add lockers when you re-gear and lift it. I would focus more on finding the most mechanically sound and best condition 80 rather than one that is locked locked. Just my opinion of course and best of luck....

I have both. Brought both kids home on their first ride in the 80. Now the kids are out of the house, its the 200 for the DD. The 80 was plenty fast and safe for us, but the 200 is really really fast and much safer and more comfortable.

I kept the 80 because I love it, and still wheel it. I could still keep 90MPH on the highway and it's plenty fast for me. I also have motorcycles so I know what "fast" is. My daughter drove it in high school and It was the coolest car in her Tesla/BMW filled school parking lot.

As much as I like the 200, I don't love it the way I love my 80. When the time comes, I'll trade LX570 for a LX700h Overland and still keep the 80.
