Should update this now that I've finally got my shop completed and air compressor mostly setup. I did end up with the Champion VR5-8. I haven't done much with it yet, but I'm pleased. It appears to be in a a whole different universe of quality from the DeWalt it replaced and I'm just staggered at how quiet it is. I ended up making a separate compressor shed for it outside of my shop. with the shed door closed it's just a low hum. Inside the shop, you can't even hear it.
