SHELL IVORY OR LILLY WHITE

ready to paint the top on my 68 and it seams the color could be either one ???
has anybody been able to have either color mixed up
I had a 304 shell ivory done and it cane out tan looking . I have been trying to get this right for weeks now and not having any luck yet-----------HELP

Shell ivory is correct per the factory service manual. Where did you find the formula for it? I’ve never been able to find one. DuPont code LS123 is extremely close, however.

Shell ivory is supposed to be a little “off”. Thus the name. The brightness of any white is relative to its surroundings. Compared to a stark white background, it can look very tan. Compared to a darker background it could look very bright.

The formula that was used was a from a Sherman Williams paint code and there was no doubt about the color being way to Tan.
My research also found that RM still is suposed to have the paint code in their line ATO195.A this is the next sample I will try to have mixed, I found this in the Mud forum from some time back
I have no Idea what the Shell ivory really looks like and that makes it even more difficult to compair variations close to it, I do realize it is an off white color probably somewhere between Sirius,1391, and Usse,1427.

This may have solved my problem.
I have just found and downloaded the Sherman Williams imported car colors catalog for 1967 - 1971.
in it there is no referance to 304 Shell Ivory, however there is the notation for 403 Lily White as being Roof Color 67-68.
Sherman Williams was the autherized paint supplier to Toyota dealers at that time, I wonder if is their color match for 304 ?????
I had never heard of Lily White till last Fri while I was searching for paint info.
the code is J5-1615 for their Acrylyd and J3-1615 for enamel, gona have to ck this out !!!!!!!

I would trust Toyota before I trusted sherwin Williams. Toyota says it’s shell ivory. I suspect the formula you have for shell ivory is bad. Use the DuPont LS123 formula. Regardless of paint names, ls123 matches what was actually used.

It’s impossible to match a paint from a photo on your computer or phone, but this photo shows the difference between a shell ivory bezel and what people refer to as a lily white body color. I call it lily white with caution because everybody seems to think the earliest. (Pre 1964) White was lily white, but I don’t think there’s any documentation to support that and the existing lily white formulas don’t match the very early white that was actually painted on these trucks. I’ve owned 3 pre-1964 white cruisers that were all the exact same white and the existing lily white formulas don’t match the factory applied color. Bezel is DuPont LS123 (match for shell ivory) and body is a custom formula made to match the factory white.

How were you able to determine that LS123 was a good match for 302 ???
It would seem like you have put some time into this issue.

A match was made with the ls123 paint chip and an original part by somebody on this forum and I verified it at my local paint shop.

FYI
I came accross this in the thread you posted.
DuPont color retrival site == L7052 and the name given is Shell Ivory. I have to find someone in So Cal that still mixes DuPont paint.
The Sherman Williams place could do nothing with their old codes I gave them today, they are no longer in their database.
Had you ever seen this code before ???

I was able to have the LS123 mixed up today in Nason paint, that is the DuPont replacment in California.
the L7052 in no longer a good number.
Real happy with the color !!

Glad it worked out for you. I’ve never seen the L7052 code or any code that still worked for shell ivory besides the stock DuPont color match.

What does it look like? Can you show us a picture of the color? Where did you go to have it mixed? My LAPS is supposed to carry Nason paint.

here is a copy of the invoice for the paint, Annex paint in Reseda was verry helpfull.
have not painted top or bezel yet so on pix of color but is is definately an off white ivory kinda color.
best of luck on your resto, been on mine 6 yrs now and finaly sliding into home plate !!!!!!!

For whatever reason, I am having a hard time finding DuPont LS123 from the local paint shops. It's super frustrating. Does anyone happen to know a Sherwin-Williams cross reference number?
