Hub gaskets come with the axle kit.

TOFUDEBEEST HAS MOVED UNDER HER OWN POWER. The first tine in a year she has started.

As usual, I am indebted to fellow Landcruiser fans in ways I know I'll never fully be able to repay. Fortunately, Turnmeover (D) has had the time, patience and knowledge to get this project back in high gear. In the two Saturdays and a half-Sunday we've wrenched, the progress has been impressive. Having the wiring 95% done is a real motivator...

On the list remains the following jobs (though I am sure I'll leave many things out), in roughly this order:
*complete the back-up light and tach wiring. (D) DONE
*trim and loom the harness so it looks nice and purdy.(D) DONE
*complete the clutch lines and mount the slave line stop to the firewall. (B&D) DONE
*replace the fuel injection pump diaphragm and gasket. (B)
*swap out (?) the key cylinder/ignition glow module (D) and eventually rekey the whole vehicle). DONE
*replace the twin side cover gaskets.(B)
*cap the fuel tank pick-up unit return nipple (unit from an FJ60 - no return necessary in the diesel) and cap the fuel breather loop return nipple. (B) DONE
*fill up with B100. (some bitch) DONE
*refill coolant, clutch fluid. (B) DONE
*modify indicator light panels for glow, filter and ?, and reinstall instrument cluster and a/c, switch and ashtray console. (B)
*see if the idler shaft can be pushed back into the transfercase (it is out about 1/8")and lock-tite the idler shaft tab bolt so that this thing does NOT back out again. (B) DONE
*if not, rebuild transfer case again (yay!) (Mel Lowe, D&B)
*reinstall console, seats, flooring, etc. (B)
*service/rebuild the knuckles, inner axle seals and hubs (oily leak running down one of the tires from the hub), as needed. (B&D)
*rig up a second battery tray, ground and lead. (D) NOT DOING DONE
*inspect brakes, replace as necessary. (B&D)
*obtain exhaust flange lead gasket, reinstall the exhaust downpipe, have remainder of exhaust bent up and installed, with hangers. (B)
*install Sheila's windshiled in a new chromeless weatherstrip. (Mauldin's Auto Glass)
*have a new a/c hose made using two exisiting hoses, convert the a/c system and refill with refrigerant. (?)
*repair rear tail lens and metal from when we smashed the asses of Tofu and the 40 together(!). (?)
*respray entire vehicle and pressure steam clean seats, door panels and headliner. (?)
*fab a new front bumper (D&B) or get Tofu's bumper back from Mel Lowe...

What am I missing???:wrench::wrench::wrench:

WE got a lot done saturday . We should be done by the 2nd week in october then Tofu goes home.

Whooohoooo ! Good job, T.D.B. and T.M.O !!!

Second week in October? I think more like last weekend in September (two more Saturdays), especially if we don't blow 2 hours chasing an unknown 60 through town to a rock pit just to say hi...

Hey it is all for the love of cruisers. And it was worth it to meet some other cruiser heads and get a look see at there nice rigs.

Current To Do List

Next two weekends:
* mount the slave line stop to the firewall. (D)
* replace the fuel injection pump diaphragm and gasket. (B)
* modify indicator light panels for glow and filter and reinstall instrument cluster and a/c, switch and ashtray console, and stereo/xm system. (B)
* retap the the idler shaft tab bolt hole (it was stripped, allowing the tab to come loose and the shaft to back out slightly) lock-tite a new, larger idler shaft tab bolt so that this thing does NOT back out ever again. (B)
* service/rebuild the knuckles, wheel bearings, inner axle seals and hubs. (B&D)
* inspect brakes, replace as necessary. (B&D)
* bend up some conduit as if it were an exhaust line, have muffler shop bend up exhaust to match it. (D&B install)
* reinstall console, seats. (B)
* install new starter (solenoid went bad from sitting too long).
Q: Will the starter from a 3FE work for a 2H???
* finish body work from when we smashed the asses of Tofu and the 40 together(!) and reinstall tail lamps.
* finish black out and dechroming job.

DRIVE TOFU HOME!!!

Once Tofu is home (all B):
* if still leaky, rebuild transfer case again (yay!) (Mel Lowe, B)
* if leaky, replace exhaust flange lead gasket. (B)
* install Sheila's windshield in a new chromeless weatherstrip. (Mauldin's Auto Glass)
* have a new a/c hose made using two exisiting hoses, convert the a/c system and refill with refrigerant. (?)
* steam clean seats, door panels and headliner. (B)
* fix poorly functioning windows and anything else that is broken or not working right.

Later:
* respray entire vehicle (same color).
* fab a new front bumper. (D&B)
* Second Skin and Line-X flooring.
* during next oil change, replace the twin side cover gaskets.(B)
* install Sheila's OME 3" lift springs, w/ new bushings.
* install Sheila's speaker wire and speakers.

Winch? SOA?

Yeah it was a welcome distraction and we met waht appears to be a good new addition to NFC.

Dennis, You rock man. I thank you so much for this amazing help.

NOTE to all: due to a missing dot in a wiring diagram, which if there would have indicated a postive connection to the EDIC motor or relay, we spent at least three hours last night starting and restarting this 2H which would either not start or would stop as soon as I released the key. Dennis got frustrated, but kept his cool and persisted. In the end, I took a leap of faith as he wired this up as his gut told him and it worked... (correct this if I got the details wrong, dude).

FL now officially has a Cruiser wiring guru (particularly diesel).

You plan on wheeling this rig?

FYI the springs we pulled from Shelia weren't manufactured by ome.

They look real beefy and I would be proud to have them, but they are not OME.

Post a pic of them, so others can verify.

If you do decide to go soa, I'll take those lift springs off your hands.

Wheeling, yes, but nothing that will crunch body panels, so no alpha or beta. Mild wheeling, nothing off camber. I don't want to budget for longfields or anything else to really build up this rig. I will get some rear lockers however (prolly Aussie), no matter where I plan to go. I got stuck once in mud after bragging about how unstoppable cruisers are. I would not have if I had been locked... Definitely not the mall cruiser you built; not one part got painted before going back in. :flipoff2:

Good Job, B. Bring it to the Southern Cruiser Crawl in October? :steer:

So with that being said. Tofu will see dirt roads and pavement.

You forgot the 6 pack that I sent the wife to the store for. After I got agravated. I put down 3 conseqtive beers and 10 min later I started thinking clearly. After our 14 hour day I was whoped and didnt feel like doing a damn thing today.

If your hoping lockers will solve your mud problem, think again... Just makes it so you get farther in before you get stuck! Especially in FL :) But at least you get goo thrown up on both sides of the rig. glad to hear it's up and running. KB awaits.....

I'll get to go where I can currently only can go by walking.

Had to be there... Lockers absolutely would have saved my hide that one day -- that and meats other than the 31" road tires Sheila was sporting...

All kidding aside, this was and will be soon again my DD and with it, I will be able to do one part my job effectively once again, that being getting deep into tracts of land that have little or no roads or trails, often over mine fields of mostly hidden pine stumps, through hog wallows, and across small fallen trees. Any 4-wheel drive could do most of it, but not with such a big 'ol grin on the driver's face...

gald to see your up and running, the wiring in 60 series is pretty simple once you get down to it, I knew you could do it. if I wasnt 12000 miles away I would have given you a hand

once again well done

I have now aquired a 1990 60 series ( exactly what you have built, looks like a 62, but all 60 diesel running gear) and the engine wiring has not changed from what you have, I even have sheilas rust! LOL. Good luck tofu

looks like you will be running soon

before you soa, turbo the 2h you wont regret it they love them. subaru wrx turbo, thats what I am installing mine

Paul

A little nervous about throwing a turbo on a motor with 200K on it. If I kill this motor, I won't have the $$$ to replace /rebuild it. But I'm listening...

Just got off the phone with Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters (801) 518-3837. NICE GUY! Knuckle rebuild kit with wheel bearings and Marlin inner axle seals, will arrive on Friday for this Saturday's knuckle festival. Complete kit from inner seals to hub gasket, under $200. Also got a pair of Japanese aftermarket tail lenses, $30 for the pair!!! Approaching OEM quality (one piece), not those s***ty Taiwanese three-piece units...

Also, per Kurt's suggestion, I called Rob at Radd Cruisers, (Vancouver Island) but got the new half-owner (soon to be full owner), John. This guy is a cruiser savant, especially about diesel-related stuff!!! I ordered a 12v 2H starter plunger and contact set from him, which he's actually just going and grabbing from a Wilson Elec.shop near him the Nippondenso parts they carry. So, I'll clean the starter contacts and try that first, or if the contacts are badly worn, I'll put in the new stuff. I'll have these before this weekend.

We talked turbos and after riding in Mel Lowe's project this afternoon, I am psychologically comitted to waking up this old 2H.
Since my compression numbers are good (1= 380, 2= 375, 3= 400, 4= 390, 5= 365, 6= 390) and that's without a valve adjustment, it is healthy for more compression. This will have to be done on a very tight budget, probably with parts from a u-pull-it lot. So, I'm looking for more suggestions for appropriate makes/models to search for...
