I know I am probably out of luck but never hurts to ask. Looking for a SD40 site glass. Also need the Aisin plate. Would prefer Blue Plate but would be willing to take a gray plate if you had one.

I haven't really had time to revisit this project. I have the molds created but couldn't get the tempering to work. I would produce a molded glass only to have it shatter out of nowhere. Glass is a fickle object.
If anyone knows of a glass company who could take the project on, I would gladly supply the molds to them. I can also make more molds pretty easily.
A funny story, went to look at an fj45 years ago and it had a big window sd40. Guy broke the glass, so he made one out of plexi glass..... and it had been working for a few years! Defeats the whole cool factor, but maybe an option for those without one?
i spent quite a bit of time trying to move this project forward and @Krondor helped with a CAD file but i seemed to strike out at just about every turn. I did find a company willing to make the mold and provide the finished product but it was $6000 for 100 pieces. The 60 bucks a piece isn't bad but i don't have that kind of money to shell out upfront and hope i find 100 buyers. I had one other specialy glass manufacturer in Cambridge Ohio that seemed interested in trying to make it work. Unfortunately he is 3.5 hours away and isn't open on weekends so i have not found the time. Also working with @BenCC to 3d print one but he had not yet found a translucent media that would stand up to the gasoline/ethanol. Last option may be to just use 5 mm thick glass and run with it. Just would like to find a better solution.
Just a thought. One could engrave the backside of the glass with Aisin and paint the back of the carb chamber blue or gray with fuel resistant paint/chemical.
With the stated above casting; couldn’t you do a thick clear plastic that’s sturdy and resilient enough to stand the test of time? Someone smarter than I should know what plastics might work.

With regards to plastic. I contacted a number of plastic companies to see if they could suggest a polymer that was gasoline proof/resistant. Most came back with no suggestion and the few that did were not transparent.
I am thinking I will be getting a visit from @Land Cruiser Junky soon. He has worked with glass his whole life. I will ask him about cutting some flat glass to spec so at least we can get a few dead carbs back on road.

Hey guys, as long as Mark can provide me with a sample for the shape and thickness I can knock these out for you. It can't be any harder than cutting new glass for the cluster and I just did that for my LV a few weeks ago. PM me if you need one. Someone post up a pic of one with a quarter next to it.
BTW, for the most part you can't beat glass verses plastics or lexan. Even with the heat the engine produces I don't think this glass would have to be tempered.
I just received info on this glass and see it's cast glass. Now I understand why it's so expensive to reproduce. I'll check out an original at Mark's Off Road but it looks like I will probably make these out of 1/8" clear flat glass.
I have recently acquired a parts Aisan DW35 carb that has similar size sight window but surprisingly Toyota decided to make that in plastic. That carb is on the way to me. Once I get that I will make few inquiries on reproduction at my end as well.

I saw this at a swap meet a couple weeks ago. It’s a Nissan. Wonder if the glass might crossover. Didn’t buy it and didn’t ask how much. View attachment 2209630
