Ya miss my point on the spare tire, these doors are set up for the passenger side spare, you are gonna have to move the license plate deal and fix all the junk left from the move......

They have to be painted anyway, other than moving the plate bracket to the right side door, what other problems do you foresee? School the pupil Wise One. I used to know all of this stuff, but the buggy s*** has fried my Cruiser brain.

Her are the backs of both , looks like just the bracket and a couple of holes.....

As said before, I'm jealous of yours!

What is your paint code?

That's a great color!

Sorry, I don't know. Have to find that out still.

Has drums front at the moment, but a complete axle with disc's will be ready soon to take over! Once the resto starts, I will also change the V8 with a 2F.

Herewith old pic's when I bought the 43 two years ago. The rear bumper weighed 100kg.

Anyway, don't want to take over "Wngrog's" fred. Wngrog, what I like about your 43 is the fact that it seems to be absolutely original. Even the dash hasn't been touched. A really nice example you got there.

I have also noted that on some of them the rear Number Plate holder is larger and also bolted to the bottom of the door, like on Dieseler's rig.

The tailgate on mine has those mounting holes, but I could only find the short plate holder (not yet fitted on above pics) as per Wngrog's 43 ! Not a trainsmash, because no one will notice here anyway!

This one has the spare on the same side as a US FJ-40. It is Left Hand Drive you know. Came out of Columbia.

Anyway, the holes are there for this type of tailgate. It was a factory soft top....dunno what was on it, but it has the holed for this type of tailgate already.

I love you too much to sick this Redhead on you, you would DEFINITELY have a heart attack.

Nice score. where do I get those rubber bumpers for the bumperettes, and the front bumper. Also the awesome mudflaps.

The rig is a classical "long" Toyota with an aftermarket fiberglass top. They were sold in Colombia between 1968 (aprox) and 1982. All authorized dealer FJs sold in Colombia were built in Japan and had a soft top due to customs regulations (our customs thought that a soft top 4wd vehicle was a work tool, but if it had a hard top it was a luxury vehicle and taxes were ridiculously high).

These hard tops are not built any more but can be found in the used parts market for around 300 USD. All the FJs that were imported were Gasoline engines (not because gas is cheap in Colombia, as a matter of fact, our gallon is costing around 4 bucks) but because diesel fuel was not available on rural areas.

It is not hard to find these "jewels" because cars in our country are very expensive and people tend to keep them running in good condition. Spare parts are readily available and inexpensive so it's easy to find FJs in mint condition and still working as public service vehicles in rural areas.

I have attached a picture of mine, bought almost two years ago and that I'm slowly restoring.

Hey Nolen, I've got the air filter stuff off of my '78 40 if you need it. I went tbi. You pay shipping and its yours. You taking it to the round up in March ? Sweet find dude.

Hey Mike, that's a deal I can't refuse. I will pm you for your address so I can get you my FEDEX account number.

jtoro, great info! I love this board for the fact that it gets info out there from guys like you. Thanks for posting up!

I spent the evening in my shop going over this rig. I found some stuff that I am glad I found. Plenty of loose stuff like motor mounts, seat mounts, bumper mounts, etc.

The front driveshaft is toast. I will pull it and get it rebuilt here locally if I cannot find a replacement in decent shape. The guy that imported it called it having a frame-up restoration, at best it was a thorough paint job. Everything looks nice and rust free. It had a fuel leak at the OEM filter (which is a type I had never seen), so I replaced the old filter with one from NAPA.

I plan on driving it to work tomorrow and then down to a fellow Cruiserhead's tire shop to swap these 30x9.50x15's for some 33x10.50x15's. I like the looks of it better with some real tires.

Henry C said this model never had hubcaps, but I will probably run them anyway. I like the classic look.

Oh ye of little faith! Didn't jtoro above confirm what I told you yesterday?!

I like the classic hubcap look too, they just weren't stock.

The only time I have ever lost faith in you Henry is if I am expecting you to call me back :flipoff2:

Yeah, your info is always spot-on. Looking forward to seeing the brochures you have.

Might have after the weekend. Have to first put the softtop back on to mine. Will then post detailed pics!

Yes, mine is a standard length one. They were also sold here but were a lot less popular because of the "reduced" space. Remember these vehicles were bought for moving stuff to and from remote rural areas. This implies that you have to have a lot of space (It's almost impossible to haul a trailer in remote rural roads in our country). No hubcaps in this part of the world. In the attached picture you can get an idea of what they are used for. Even though not Toyotas but that other brand that I wish not to mention ;) this gives you a good idea of why 43s were kings.

I got the tires on, the GAY chrome mirrors replaced with OEM ones and some immediate maintenance done.

This thing is unbelievable. Super tight. The 33's made a world of difference in the way it drives and handles. The RPMs with the 30's on the highway were awful. Now they are perfect.

The High Output 2F from Man a Fre is killer. I have never driven a really tuned 2F with stock tires before. Wow, it is actually peppy. The H41 has the low 1st gear and it is pretty cool.

All in all, I love it. The interior is perfect but the underside needs some love.

I want to start with the front axle and work my way back taking it apart and cleaning it and replacing all of the seals, gaskets and bearings.

It will be fun. I miss messing with Toyota stuff.

All I have is my cell phone...one camera was stolen in the wreck, one was sold on Friday and one is on loan
