I don't like the aesthetic of hood scoops. I put a bigger turbocharger on it and turned up the fuel. It is capable of making more heat now. We'll see what temps say, I'll stick a couple thermocouples on it and watch in/out temps. I may do some ductwork from the bottom or side or an 8" fan.
Do you currently watch temps? What's normal?
We've debated putting in an EGT in my 5.9 build but not sure if the Dakota Digital can see it, or if we even need it.
We are definitely doing a fan on the intercooler.

Looks busy 🤷‍♂️
It gets that way, not like looking in at a 2F or whatever, but it is just a bunch of simple, hopefully reliable systems, unlike what I see with more modern stuff. I was recently accused of putting 12 lbs of poop in a 5 lb bag.

And now for something completely different. Well, maybe not so different but you get the point.....

After discussing with @POTATO LAUNCHER I'll be pulling together a Japanese whiskey tasting one night at camp. Japanese trucks + Japanese whiskey, what's not to like. A friend out here owns a liquor store and between us we'll be providing 7-10 bottles for those interested in a free tasting. This will be a BYOLB (Bring Your Own Low Ball) affair and those inclined to provide mixers/recipes/pro tips for imbibing are most welcome. Here is a preview of coming attractions. If there are any requests, PM me and I'll see if we can accommodate.

Off road it pretty much stays under 400F. Flat ground at 65 I'm sitting at 800F with heavy throttle on hills pushing it up to 1000-1100F. Not terrible but warmer than I'd like. Does it need it? Probably not. If you've got the fuel turned up and have modified things, I'd think you'd want to know where you're at. My experiment with this larger turbo is nearly over, it makes more power up high isn't moving enough air at lower speeds which is actually pushing "normal" egts up. I was hoping it would move a little more air in the midrange and lower temps.

I made the decision many years ago to use this drivetrain, and I know it's not for everyone, and I probably wouldn't even do it over again, but here I am 😆.

It's more fun and fulfilling to tinker with mechanicals for me, and it allows me to use the excuse that it's not "done" yet so that I can defer final paint/interior work another decade (which I fear will put it out of commission for longer than I'd like in my current phase of life.)

Yes, I know there's some "cleaning up" to do - this is the "functional and reliable, but not prettied up" state - I will re-locate battery, wiring runs, etc. when I add AC and remove the heater box from firewall. Right now the battery is taking up real estate that a future AC compressor and Donaldson air filter housing will need. I need to do away with the shiny intake tubes and cone filter...

Dakoda has an EGT BIM.

Great idea! I’ll be there, wearing my Japanese watch btw. Now I have an excuse to procure a bottle.

Ps, that Kavalan is from Taiwan (unless they’ve built another distillery in Japan in the past few years). But they’ve beaten the Japanese in competitions for single malts. Impressive stuff.

Question for the Colorado natives . I will be bringing my RV to sas and trailer my LC behind it and will also bring a bike with me to ride the Colorado BDR with some friends after the sas . Does anyone has any recommendations for a place to leave my RV/trailer with the cruiser for about 8 days while I ride the BDR ? I don't mind paying for a secure spot that gives piece of mind . The BDR starts in the 4 corners and ends near Steamboat springs but anywhere near the BDR route or along my way back to TX from SAS would be nice .

Thanks

I may be able to set you up in Durango for a small fee. PM me if interested.

Good afternoon! Throwing this out there now for hopefully when the time comes. I am in need of a cabin for SAS (part of the strategy to get my wife to attend for the first time!). My understanding is that currently they are all spoken for. I’m putting myself on a list with KOA. I know some sites and cabins tend to open up as we get closer. So, if anyone sees themselves giving one up, I’m your guy! Thanks in advance.
Brent
(Dos Gringos)

And if one opens up, I would like to be next in line for a cabin after Brent.
<fingers crossed>
-Sean

I don't think this is the place to be in line for anything, anywhere?

Thanks. It’s come a long ways since being rescued from the woods of Missouri.

That’s a damn good start in any case. All the Yota ones I was finding were utter trash or $1,500+ for what you’re showing.

My Datsun was a New Mexico find for a couple tanks of gas. I’ll roll with it until I find something better.

What did you do for an axle?

3” drop axle. My buddy had an old Datsun trailer. It was what inspired me to find mine.

I still haven't gotten my camping trailer painted. I should probably get on that....
