Speaking of mud slides. I watched this over the weekend. I know it is Jeeps, but people may want to see this as it is a real thing out in those parts. You can fast forward to the water fall at the start of the switch backs. About the 13 min mark.

I like their videos . Thats one of the reasons I always watch weather before running BB and try to do it early in the day. We had one happen right behind us on imogene 5ish years ago. It was right where the road vanished 2 yrs ago. I'm more worried about 550 to be honest with no vegetation holding everything together It could be a messy monsoon season . But I'd give up some wheeling to see the fires get put out.

From the KOA this morning FYI:

Good morning,
As of right now we are on stage 2 fire restrictions. No campfires or burning of charcoal, only propane fires. The goldmine fire is thankfully going away from the campground currently, I think we dodged a bullet with the wind direction when it started. I’m going to send a picture of what we have at the front desk right now as far as the fire restrictions for the area. It’s just to have a list of what you can or cannot use during stage 2 fire restrictions.

Sheriff came in today. Said the firefighters are not worried about the fire coming our way anymore with the fire line they have made on the ridge. But the concern now is the smoke. Could be bad air quality for the next few weeks. Hoping this is all clear by the time yall arrive !

Thanks for posting this @Mesa Woman . IIRC, year 5 was an extremely dry year as well. Had smoke on the horizon for most of the Southern part of the state.
Please add a fire extinguisher to your vehicles and camp. Cheap way to prevent a run away situation.

I made the mistake of watching with the volume on. Not the brightest bulbs there. They got into a jam and made some good decisions at least. Point taken…things can happen quickly in the mountains, especially in the summer afternoons. Water can change things in a HURRY.

Also what's underneath, Catalytic converters in Tall (dry) grass, is also a High fire risk. A general FYI
This^^. Had this happen on a race car in dry grass during an "agricultural" line exploration at VIR. For those running tail gunner, keep your eyes open for any smoldering when the group drives off.

Stay on the trail 🤷‍♂️ and off the grass ;)

No welding or torching!! For those that need to hear it, please keep the carnage constrained to bolt-on repairs only this year 🤣

(But seriously, good to get this out in front of everyone in print for clear expectations. Wishing all those involved the best outcomes, if I could have sent over a few of our recent deluges I would have..)

****FOOD****UPDATE****

The Humming Bird Cafe at the KOA will be open every day from 7am -12pm or until sold out.

They will have most of the food on the menu below premade and ready to go. I was told the wait time maybe 5-10 minutes for to-go orders and the restaurant is on the way out by the front office exit.

Bulk preorders from the below menu will need to be made 24-48 hours ahead of time, they need 24 hour notice minimum for preorders, it would be most ideal if you could have the bulk preorders 48 hours in advanced, but they can usually get it done with 24 hours.

I am excited that the restaurant at the KOA is willing to work with us and be open on days they are normally closed.
Please help support this local business, they are not the KOA.

I am unable to get a food truck out there this year, so this is the next best thing for us at this time. Thanks for your understanding and support. We will have a menu at the registration table for all to see and take a picture of as well as a phone number where the orders can be made through text.

See you all in 27 days!!

We like our little ammo can fire pit from ignik but we bought really early when they were cheap. Not a ton of heat just good ambiance, really efficient on the propane use.

Almost done with pretrip maintenance, broken bolt gave me some anxiety over the holiday weekend though, got it sorted in the end.

Alternator died on a shake down trip couple weeks before, but got that sorted too 🤞 and rebuilding the original as a spare.

Hopefully the rain in Ouray brings in some much needed precipitation!

Yes, completely agree but sometimes stuff happens, given the increased volume of traffic and/or mechanical "situations" :)
Tread lightly my friend 😁
But ya I get it.

Best thing about camp fire in a can is no smoke in the eyes.
We use them regularly in the Sierra Nevada’s as fire is always a danger.
And let us not forget the 2020 fire season!! Just brutal.
Literally got chased out of the mountains by the Creek fire 😳
Before it was contained It burned nearly 280,000 acres and it was only one of many fires burning at the time.
So fire safety is paramount !! Please use extreme caution.

That should work fine, Catherine. Maybe order like 40 or 50 the first morning or 2 and keep in a Yeti cooler at registration. Sell first come first served with morning coffee?

SAS will not be preordering bulk orders for SASers. You will be responsible for your own food purchases.

I have gotten them to stay open when they are usually closed and I have given them a heads up on what they could expect. Also, this menu was made for our event week.

That’s the best we can do this year.

Please support this small local business.

Thanks for your understanding Everyone! 😊

See ya in 26 1/2 days! 🤪

This would work great if we could get a sign up sheet and payment deal going. But only if you get bagel sandwiches…. That’s what I want.

(And I mean we kids could make this happen, the adults have enough going on)
